The Philadelphia Flyers have called a news conference for 11am et/8am pt amid multitple reports that the team has fired head coach Peter Laviolette ... I guess a Stanley Cup and AHL Championship and NHL Finalist isn't a strong enough reseme to keep your job in Flyer land .

Firing a coach this early in the season, if that's the case, has to have something more to it. There must have been something else that precipitates this.

Maybe if the Flyers didn't do such a crappy job in getting a goaltender then maybe a coach would keep his job longer in that town ... They were an organization that had guys like Bernie Parant , Pelle Lindbergh and Ron Hextal and now they lay their hopes on guys like Mason , Bryzgalov ( bought out ) etc .,

I think the guy that should go is the (former) goon Holmgren. He's had some success but way more failure. And with the resources he's had to work with (I think he started before the cap era) they always seem to be rebuilding and/or making huge changes.

Seriously? Berube? Another goon. Probably a bigger goon than Holmgren. Get ready for the 2013 version of the Bullies. Or maybe he'll coach an uptempo, Scotty Bowman type of team.

I can just imagine how differences of opinion will be settled between Holmgren and Berube.
