Was it only a matter of time? Van Halen has cancelled more than 30 concert dates, including gigs in Philadelphia, Baltimore, Memphis, Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Detroit.

The last date on the tour, which reunited the Van Halen brother, Alex and Eddie, with original lead singer David Lee Roth, will pull up wheels on the June 26 gig in New Orleans. No word on rescheduling the gigs or how fans can get refunds has been offered.

Pollstar originally reported the news following stories about individual cancelled gigs in Salt Lake City and El Paso, Texas appeared in those cities’ newspapers. Rolling Stone picked up the story and added that the concert promoter, Live Nation, declined to comment, but sources told Rolling Stone that infighting between the band (i.e. between the Van Halen(s) and Roth) were brutal. They “hate each other... band is arguing like mad,” the source told Rolling Stone.

Hey, it’s a relief to hear (though it's unconfirmed) that infighting rather than that Eddie Van Halen’s health is causing the cancellations, but it’s a shame that grown men in their 50s and 60s can’t figure out a way to make it on stage every night (for which they are paid millions of dollars over the course of the tour, by the way). If Aerosmith can do it, why can’t Van Halen?

It would also appear that the old lack of ticket sales would not be an issue. The tour was selling very well in most markets, if not completely selling out arenas.

The band was supporting its first new album with Roth in more than two decades, “A Different Kind of Truth,” which came out in February.

I didn't even know they had an album out in February.

I saw Van Halen a few short years ago when they returned to Toronto in the summer. It was a great concert and Eddie was in fine form. Sammy Hagar was great too. I saw the road crew give passes to big-titted, long-haired babes in the front (the bass player, Anthony Michaels or Michael Anthony whatever, covered his eyes everytime he moved in front of one pocohontas-like babe, indicating that she was too hawt and distracting him - what a player lol).

Cancelled due to hatred?

Or cancelled due Eddie's health (cancer)?

#10 Eddie Van Halen (Alcohol, Cocaine, Meth)

Along with Alcohol, Eddie Van Halen found himself addicted to Crystal Meth because the drug was often found in the Cocaine he was buying on the street. This led to the inability to handle longer tours and performances.

I loved Van Halen in the 1980s, I sure hope he hasn't started using again. :(

You would be referring to Michael Anthony, if he was still in the band, but he was kicked out by the time they came back to Toronto, the one covering his eyes would be Eddie's son Wolfgang who is now playing bass for the band.

It was Michael Anthony before he was kicked out. I'm sure of it. They could've returned another time with Wolfy.

It was funny. He was blocking his eyes everytime he roamed around our end of the arena, as if she was too hot for him too look at. The she got that backstage invitation. Awww the life of a rock star.

According to TMZ:

TMZ now report that sources close to the band say, "The guys felt like the current schedule was 'too much, too fast', and they were 'losing their focus'."

The source says: "They're simply burned out", adding, "They want to make sure their concerts are not a routine... they want every performance to be special."

TMZ are told the band want to take some time to "recharge their engines", so they can rock all 31 cities the way Van Halen fans expect to be rocked. As for rumors that Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth are feuding.. "It's total B.S."

They won't be rockin' any cities regardless of whether they get along or not.

Roth's voice is shot. I work with someone who saw their recent concert in Toronto. As expected, she said it wasn't good.

Saw their Vancouver show last week. Heard a radio review the next day which pretty much summed it up. David Lee Roth. An embarrassment.
Eddie Van Halen is a freak of nature. Still an amazing guitarist and he showed it. Library of great hits, written by him. Always a bit of a cheese factor with Van Halen, but still, for me, they kick ass musically. The lack of energy and enthusiasm for what was the beginning of the tour was sad, if unsurprising. The forced smile on Eddie's face to cover what must have been embarrassment at being on stage with Diamond Dave kind of told it all. Oh well. Too bad they had to stop what was probably going to be the final tour, because from what Sammy Hagar says, they need the money.

Ouch. DLR is definitely too old to try this. EVH and VH actually don't look or sound half bad.

WRONG!!!

First, there's a difference between a tour being "cancelled" and "postponed".....

Yesterday, Van Halen POSTPONED (not canceled!) most of their Summer tour dates with no reason given. Immediately, speculation ran wild. Fans wondered if there were health issues. Rolling Stone quotes a mysterious “source with knowledge of the tour” who supposedly said the band members “hate each other” and are “arguing like mad.”

Working for Live Nation there's news from our trusted and proven sources! Other than those Summer dates having to be moved, it’s actually good news.

First off, no one in the band is sick. No health problems!

Second, we knew right away that Rolling Stone’s “source” is completely wrong, and can not possibly be a person with actual inside knowledge of the tour, because all four band members have been getting along splendidly throughout the entire tour. Roth and the Van Halen’s talk every day, and they are all smiles on stage. Everyone who’s seen the tour or even youtube videos can confirm that. In fact, the band is on such a high from playing together this year and they were really taken aback by the Rolling Stone quote. They’re older and wiser and haven’t had any issues with one another.

Why were these dates postponed? The band has been working tirelessly for the last 18 months – writing and recording “A Different Kind Of Truth”, filming the “Tattoo” video, rehearsing, putting together the show themselves (lighting, the videos, the stage, routing the tour, and lots of behind the scenes stuff that most people don’t even know about). The band wants the second leg to be as awesome as the first. And for that to happen they want to put more time into the planning of it. Not just continue on with the same show.

Van Halen is very enthusiastic about the rest of the tour and wants be on the road for a long time. Just how long remains to be seen, but we’ll say that the tour will probably continue into next year.**They are now considering touring Australia and Japan in the near future.

As it stands now, the 31 postponed US shows are due to be rescheduled. There should be some sort of official announcement forthcoming.

That all being said, not surprised by some of the "hate" comments by some people on this board. They have nothing better to do with their time but criticize everything everywhere at any opportunity, because they're insecure to begin with!

Jesus brother, lighten up. Who are you? A Van Halen middle Manager?

18 months at work is tiring? I would guess that Eddie started getting phone calls from a few lawyers yesterday.
