You would have to consider Rice as one of the best ever but I think to single one player out will be a never ending debate.

To say WR position relies too much on other positions to be successful I think is true of all other positions as well. Football is such a team sport. Walter Payton is definitely one of the greats but would he have had the success he had without a solid O-line or without some decent receivers to force a defense to think about the pass as well as the run? I don't think so. Likewise, Rice had a solid team around him.

I completely agree with you on your quote above. I love football because there is so many players that the strategy involved in getting 10 yards in 3 or 4 downs that it's amazing.... and it all happens so quickly...

No one has mentioned anyone from the other side of the ball yet. What about LT? Or a dominating lineman like Randy White, Mean Joe Greene or Randy's cousin Raggie? Jack Lambert, Mike Singletary or ray Lewis? Or even someone like Deon Sanders who in an era of specialization that brought us dedicated long snappers, 3rd down backs and nickle backs, was talented enough to play both sides of the ball pretty well?

The stats will always lead you to the offensive side of te ball, but that's misleading.
