So I took down the guy's license plate and wanted to see how much I could find out about him just by searching the net. Surprisingly a lot.

I know his name.
Where he lives.
What he does for a living and where he works (and where he's worked in the past).
I know what he looks like.
I know where he went to school.
I know he's a member of the International Practical Shooting Confederation.
I know he's a member of the Widows Sons. (Ironic considering what they supposedly stand for)
I have his email.

But mostly I know he's a douchebag who needs to learn how to drive. :biggrin1:

Still, if I was the vengeful type, I could now exact revenge in complete anonymity. Well, before I posted this.... Be safe on the roads!

This should be very comforting information to a membership who works very hard at hiding their identity, keep their hobby secret from friends/family and worry constantly about the use of their phones.

Did you get his/her banking information?

You can just call the police and tell them what happened they will give him a warning. Why email him you caught the incident on a dashcam and have forwarded the video to the police. Let the MOFO sweat for a while .

Will they actually? Although it was a close call (if our mirrors were lined up, I'd be missing one right now), my car was undamaged. All it did really was get the adrenaline pumping, for me and probably those few drivers around us. I didn't think the police would get involved unless there was an injury or property damage. Alas, I didn't catch it on a dash cam. But you're right, it would be nice to make him sweat a little seeing as he doesn't know better.

Years ago I was returning from a session and I get behind an idiot with two older kids in his truck. Driving at 100kph I see these kids are using high powered water guns to squirt people in cars going the other way at 80-100kph. They could have caused anyone going the other way to crash. At one light they rolled just forward to where a guy was turning left, stopped and the dad and kids just let the driver have it through the window.

When I passed them I got it as my convertible top was down.

The clown was driving a truck with a number, the company name on it and a top 50 employer in Canada logo. Too easy. :D

If I make some shit up about someone and call the police will they get a warning too? I believe the police need a little thing called evidence. Just saying so doesn't count.

What I would do is subscribe to some NAMBLA newsletter and get it mailed to his house, and mail him a bunch of gay porn.

I believe they would checks. Coming home one evening we were behind a car that was exhibiting very unsafe driving so we called 911 and told them what we were watching, gave them license # and let them know we had dash cam footage if needed. They never asked for the clips but did call back to say that they hadn't been able to find her with a cruiser at the time but had sent her a warning letter.

In the summer I was driving along the 401 in fairly heavy traffic. I saw a car approach me very fast and tailed me for a couple of kilometers, every once in awhile dodging out to see if they could get around me. Once they had the chance they made a very aggressive lane change and weaved in and out of traffic to get maybe 6 car lengths ahead of me. When I saw the car from the side it was a company vehicle with a website advertised. I managed to voice record (miracles of smartphones) all the details I could get, including description of driver, license plate, time of incident and details of driving skills exhibited. I then called the Company and was directed to write a letter, this was from the General Manager's Executive Assistant. A couple of days later I received a call from the Fleet District Sales Manager and was issued an apology and was assured that it was going to be addressed with the driver.

Sounds like you were blocking the left lane. Had you moved over and let the faster vehicle pass (as you should) there would have been no aggression from the other driver. Left lane blockers cause road rage in others.

I call bullshit.

Unless you have a connection with a police affiliation, and some sort of release from the Freedom of Information Act, you don't know dick. You THINK you know... but you don't know if any of your assumptions are true.

A somewhat related question.
Where is a good place to get a dashboard cam locally?

That's fair. I don't know absolutely for sure. However, the guy made it easy for me. His license plate was a vanity boasting a pseudonym associating this guy with one of the organizations I mentioned, along with a name. The badge for this organization was also on the car. Through a separate path, I also found the exact same name linked to another organization, whose badge was also on his car, along with a picture of the guy wearing a jacket with the logo from the other organization. This location also used the same pseudonym as on his license plate. I can also place him in the right kind of vehicle. Plus he works in the correct area. Once you get enough pieces, the puzzle really starts to come together.

His name is rare, I can only find reference to one guy in this area, and he just happens to have the same obscure associations as the guy who ran me off the road. That's stretching coincidence. Maybe I should drop by at his supposed place of business and see if I can find his car, seeing as its only 2 minutes out of my way. That would be something to confirm it.

Nice job rhuarc! I have long said that in today's day and age, there is no such thing as anonymity. With enough motivation, a little time, and money, anyone can be found with little to no effort. Anyone. Online of offline. Trust me on that one.

You didn't mention all that other stuff in your original post... you made it sound like you found all this out just by googling his License Plate #.

Ha, it was almost that easy.

Yeah, I should stress that in most cases, this probably wouldn't work. A pseudonym for a license plate is a much better starting point than random letters and numbers.
