We have finally determined that SNL will never die, in spite of its mediocrity. At the very beginning, it was shock jock funny because it was the first of its kind. Now all of its competitors do it better. It has like a moment a decade or two, notably the Clarence Thomas Supreme Court hearings and the recent Coupla Beers and Maybe a Liitle Blow.
It is on too late for its aging Baby Boomers to watch it, so they see clips on Yahoo sold at a deep discount. NBC has no idea what to do with the time slot, so SNL stays. Without knowing he was doing so, Jimmy Carter actually parodied the show in the last five years of his life. The article nailed it and it was from 1994. I think, like Jimmy Carter, the light goes out someday, probably when the attention span of the Baby Boomers can’t even watch clips and can’t remember the name Jane when trying to say it’s one useful line, “Jane, you ignorant slut”.

WHAT IF "SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE" were called something else? Like "The Show Nobody Thinks Is Funny Show." Or "They Get Paid to Write This?" Maybe just "Bad Comedy--With Musical Guests." Would anyone watch?
