I am not sure if this correct part of the Terb forum to post. I am looking to get a Smartphone, i don't know anything about them:confused:. Currently i have a 2 year old basic Nokia that's just started to malfunction on me. In terms of what i need, all i want is a basic low end touchscreen smartphone so i can send calls/texts and store short video clips, don't need anything fancy. My price range is around $150, i don't know if i should buy a used one on Craigslist or not ; if anyone can share their advice/recommendations/experiences. Any comments are appreciated, peace.

I was in the exact same position you were.

Then on U.S. Thanksgiving weekend, Rogers had a promo on the Samsung Galaxy SIII for $0.01 so I had to go for it.

Took a while to get used to it but I love it. Instead of my previous $50 plan my new plan has more weekday minutes and I got 150MB of data (not much, but I haven't gone over yet) for $62. No regrets.

$150 will get you a new BlackBerry BB10...3 year contract with Rogers. Do it now. Best phone on the market.

I'm a BB guy... but I need buttons. I'm waiting for the Q-10 in a month or so.

A couple buddies I know have the BB-10 (the touch screen version) and they LOVE it. Only issue is the battery tends to wear out before a full day... but that is pretty much the case with the Iphone and S-III too. Probably has something to do with touch screens being more power "unfriendly". (I'm guessing...)

I went to a Best Buy store and told the sales rep that I wanted no contract and spend less than $100. I left with Galaxy S2 on Koodo for $100 + a $100 gift card making a grand total of $13 (taxes). I got unlimited everything nationwide for $56 and 2 GB of Data.

In short, go to a multi-brand store and get the sales rep to find a solution that meets you needs, especially if you do not have any specific device in mind.

Find a good friend with a smart phone who has the patience of a saint with you - then get the same phone. At least now you have someone that can help you make the most of your new phone. The next time after you get comfortable using a smart phone - you will be able to choose based on your needs.

I just got my first smart phone. Public Mobile, a Kyocera Rise. Very pleased with it.
Unlimited voice, unlimited text, unlimited data for $25 a month for 20 months. Also got call display for that price. After the 20 months it will be 38 a month. I'm really pleased with it. The internet is fast and I put in a 16 GB Micro SD card and now have all my music on it. The cost of the phone isn't as important as the cost of the plan moving forward. I don't know if that deal is still on but check it out.

This. You can't beat that deal. A Galaxy s2 is as good as any phone on the market. Online unlocking sites will sell you an unlock code for that phone for less than 10 dollars. Then you can use the phone with almost any provider in North America.
