You are absolutely right on. If I meet a woman who wants to be a model I know that I have found someone with low self esteem who is just begging to be manipulated and controlled.

You have to be who you are. It would be nice if everyone were smart and capable, but realistically, some people are really hot and not really smart. Isn't it better that they realize it, and be really good models, and feel happy that they are good at something, than work in a factory, be bad at it, and feel they are useless?

It is pretty unlikely that a child of mine would be attractive and stupid, but if the shoe fits, you wear it. I always tell young people that my career advice is to really know yourself, figure out who you are and where you fit in. If the conclusion is modelling, and it sounds like fun, there is no shame in that. To deny your dream because other people look down on it is a waste.

she's not a blond, is she coz that just reminded me of this joke i read yesterday:

A beautiful young blond woman boards a plane to LA with a ticket for the coach section. She looks at the seats in coach and then looks ahead to the first class seats. Seeing that the first class seats appear to be much larger and more comfortable, she moves forward to the last empty one. The flight attendant checks her ticket and tells the woman that her seat is in coach.

The blond replies, "I'm young, blond and beautiful, and I'm going to sit here all the way to LA."

Flustered, the flight attendant goes to the cockpit and informs the captain of the blond problem. The captain goes back and tells the woman that her assigned seat is in coach.

Again, the blond replies, "I'm young, blond and beautiful, and I'm going to sit here all the way to LA."

The captain doesn't want to cause a commotion, and so returns to the cockpit to discuss the blond with the co-pilot. The co-pilot says that he has a blond girlfriend, and that he can take care of the problem. He then goes back and briefly whispers something into the blonde's ear.

She immediately gets up, says, "Thank you so much," hugs the co-pilot, and rushes back to her seat in the coach section. The pilot and flight attendant, who were watching with rapt attention, together ask the co-pilot what he had said to the woman.

He replies, "I just told her that the first class section isn't going to LA."

Granted I am sure some poor smuck, will look after her, and end up living to regret it.

I dont believe wanting to be a model means you have failed. It just depends on the reason. For example if its jsut because shes pretty (which trust me may not qualify her to be a model) then yes you have failed. This makes it seems that shes one of those girls who thinks she should have everything handed to her on a silver platter because of her looks. However if she has a general interest in photography or advertising then modeling may not be such a bad idea.

If you dont want her to pursue a career in it though let her know that at first it can be quite expensive. She may have to spend money on lots of clothes to build up a portfolio. She may also have to pay quite alot of money to get that portfolio done by a good photographer. Most modeling agency will want a portfolio before they even think about signing a contract. Getting signed with an agency will not always bring work in though. These are things that most girl dont think of before deciding they want to model. They also dont realize that theres lots of people in that industry looking to take advantage of models. From photographers to fake modeling agencies.
