Oh damn! Back to the drawing board. Will AI solve this problem?
Until such time as AI can develop software completely on its own, people will always be involved in the process.

Only rational people can solve it. People with no stake in the company or politics.
Why would any business hire people with no stake in the company to develop software? Employees and contractors have a stake in the company because they are getting paid and need to comply with what they are told to do.

That being said, many for-profit companies have open--source products where any developer can build or change code. Android is the obvious example and that's why it's on so many products like dashcams, streaming sticks, mini-PCs, tablets, TV's, cash registers, etc. Meta has a few open source projects too. On the other hand, Meta would never have their money making platforms like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, etc. open source.

Trying to legislate Internet conversations will be like trying to legislate cellphone conversations.

Any social media platform without some degree of regulation/censorship inevitably deteriorates into a cesspool of racism and conspiracy theories where the loudest, most aggressive voices crowd out all others.

That’s what happened on Parler.

That’s what happened on Twitter/X.

Interestingly, most sites seem able and willing to regulate pornography…but when it comes to speech they are far more reluctant.

One of the major advantages of Facebook is you can choose who can join in the conversation. No jerks/stalkers/maniacs allowed. It makes for an intelligent/rational/civil discourse.

"Can you make Facebook posts friends only?
Below your name, tap the audience selector (example: Friends). 3. Tap the circle to the right of the audience you'd like to see your content (example: Friends, Public or Only Me). Learn more about the audiences you can choose on Facebook."
