This is sure to be an election issue.

Porter wants to bring in some Whisper Jets...to increase the island airport load and add destinations within 5 hrs of Toronto.

Porter has committed to spending the money, expanding the runways..at the same time keeping planes on the ground from about 11 pm til 6... The terminal and tunnel are almost complete......And staying within their 202 take off slots a day which is already Approved. Increased business would equal increased city revenue through taxes.

The No side argues the jets are too big..too often..and too noisy making the area too busy. They would rather see the airport turned into a city owned park. They were against the bridge, have had reservations about the pedestrian tunnels, and are dead set against the Airport.

Do you think we should have a viable, available downtown airport....or are you more in favour of the Airport closing..or not expanding?

Yep. They should expand into Pearson if they want bigger jets.

Personally, I would love to see jet service at BBA. It would be a huge convenience for me to get down south.

We are a major metropolitan city.

Of course expand the airport. If you don't like it move

It's a no brained, it's easier to get to than Pearson. I don't know why we're even having this debate, oh I remember because of that STUPID DAVID MILLER!!! Hell, I'll vote for anything that Adam Vaughan & Co are against, if they're against it, it's got to be good for the city!

If they could stay within their existing footprint I'd have no issue... but since they want to add 400m of runway into the lake and harbour, no fucking way.

Absolutely not.

Our lakefront is already a joke why make it any worse. Toronto's beaches should be for everyone not just the caviar class.

And how will that affect your daily life?

Absolutely not.

This air traffic doesn't seem to have a negative impact on people hanging out at the beach!

As a business person working with multiple companies that cross the border, I can say that the existence of YTZ is very often the deciding factor in whether or not we have a key meeting or gathering in Toronto as opposed to another city. For anything downtown Pearson adds a minimum of 1.5 hours on the way in and 2.5 hours on the way out.

That extra time can be the difference between "I can get in & out in the same day" vs. "let's just meet somewhere else" or perhaps "screw it".

The island airport is an incredible asset, lots of cities would kill to have the same capability.

I wonder how many people who live downtown and complain about Porter prefer travelling to all the way to Pearson? I flew Porter to Chicago in the summer and it was amazing. Not knowing how much time to leave myself I showed up 90 minutes before the flight. I took the TTC to Union and the free shuttle to the airport. As it turns out I could have made it to the airport just 30 minutes before my international flight departed and still made it on time. Return Limo/Cab to Pearson is $120. TTC and Porter saved me hours and $115 in travel costs.

I hang out in the summer with my cousin who has a boat on the island but you cant even hear the planes. I hear more jets flying out of Pearson and helicopters in the middles of the city than I do when I'm on his boat. NIMBY douchebags.

Porter is amazing!

I voted "no", but only because Porter is trying to get a decision made before the facts are available. I want to hear the TSB officially say it is safe, and I want real data on the noise.

If the runway extension is deemed safe and the noise is reasonable I would change my vote.

It seems that Porter is hoping to get a yes now so that when the TSB rule, AS EXPECTED, that the proposed runway extension is still too short for safety, that enough money will have been invested that the city will be forced to agree to a further extension of the runway that will significantly impact other waterfront uses and create a large exclusion zone the harbour.

I think council should withhold their decision until the TSB assessment has been completed.

No.

Successful cities are built around great places to LIVE, not having a downtown airport, and most definitely not filling in Lake Ontario to make more money for Porter.

If Porter wants to fly jets, they can fly out of Pearson.

I could care less if it takes you an hour more to get to the airport, or it's not convenient enough for you. Your convenience does not outweigh the impacts of filling in Lake Ontario, or the impacts of expanding an airport that should not be there in the first place.

Filling in of Lake Ontario? lol How do you think the islands were created in the first place? Besides, Porter takes millions of car trips off our highways. How will a couple hundred meters of runway at either end seriously impact your life? It's not like they have to tear down your house to build it.

The airport has been there for almost 80 years. If you don't like the noise from planes, why did you move next to it in the first place. You sound like someone who moves next to an airport or train tracks then runs outside shaking their fists in the air complaining about the noise. NIMBY NIMBY NIMBY!!!

You sound old and chotchety!

The extended runway will significantly impact recreational use of the waterfront.
