The picture says Resist Oppression. How exactly can you do that if you can't protest?
Do you need to it masked or wearing balaclavas? The picture says Resist Oppression. How exactly can you do that if you can't protest?
maybe some merit to that. But if your convictions are strong enough in your cause or to go to a protest……..why hide who you are.No. Making it mandatory to show face is not enforceable and secondly not everyone who goes to a protest wants to reveal their identity. And not everyone who cover their face are engaging in violence.
Dr. MLK never hid behind a mask. He displayed actual true courage and conviction, unlike these wet wipes.maybe some merit to that. But if your convictions are strong enough in your cause or to go to a protest……..why hide who you are.
Exactly who and what I was thinking of.Dr. MLK never hid behind a mask. He displayed actual true courage and conviction, unlike these wet wipes.

There was no social media, internet, facial recognition, and a culture of online bullying and vengeance, that could potentially get you in trouble down the line.maybe some merit to that. But if your convictions are strong enough in your cause or to go to a protest……..why hide who you are.
True enough, however there were countless southern whites who would fill you full of bullets at the drop of a hat. There was no social media, internet, facial recognition, and a culture of online bullying and vengeance, that could potentially get you in trouble down the line.
Why would you be worried about getting in trouble down the line if your cause is just and you are not breaking any laws? There was no social media, internet, facial recognition, and a culture of online bullying and vengeance, that could potentially get you in trouble down the line.
Not everyone is comfortable exposing themselves on social media. I for example have no social media presence at all, but may want to show up for something I believe in. So let us say I go to a pro-Palestinian protest, and my boss is Jewish, and my pic is all over social media even by accident - well I may not do anything illegal, but it is not going to go over well with my boss. So, for those kinds of reasons people may want to conceal their identity while still showing support by being there in person. Why would you be worried about getting in trouble down the line if your cause is just and you are not breaking any laws?
In fact, if you believe in your cause and want more support for it you would want to have it spread on social media, etc. no?

True, the world is different. There’s agitators and terrorist, bullying on both sides. Those there and those there. governments can freeze your bank accounts, there’s identity theft and data mining, and your life is nowhere near as private as you might think. There was no social media, internet, facial recognition, and a culture of online bullying and vengeance, that could potentially get you in trouble down the line.
The goal of a protest is not to reveal your personal identity as that does nothing for the protest one way or another, unless you are some sort of celebrity championing a cause. The goal of a protest is to show strength in numbers for a cause. So your presence is enough. Your identity irrelevant, unnecessary and possibly detrimental to you in the long run.So if you have the strength of your convictions and cause. Why hide who you are, isn’t the goal of a cause/protest to draw recognition?

I am neither Greta nor MLK. No one cares who I am. No one is going to be inspired knowing my identity. Therefore if I go to a protest, I go there to add strength to numbers, and to add strength to numbers one does not need to see my face or know my name.Greta? Dr MLK?
There’s a saying I know. “You have nothing to fear if you have nothing to hide”

When I say no one cares who I am, I mean my presence at a protest, is not going to cause someone to support the cause. However, I may personally have potential issues with people I know - at work for example, if my identity were to be revealed, as I explained. So it is important to show strength in numbers, while protecting your identity and privacy.if no-one cares why hide who you are?
