Municipal Licensing requires that licensees get a criminal background check!

So perhaps drug testing for our politicians might be a good idea.

I'd rather have them tested on intelligence, ethics and morals.

I get around.
Of course not.

In light of the recent events in Toronto, should city councilors ALL be required to take random drug testing?
No.
Even though it is typical for a Conservative politician to so abuse a system that new rules or oversights need to be started up so that it doesn't happen again.

But council should have some process in place to remove a mayor who has lost the trust of everyone through habitual crack-smoking, being drunk in public and in his car and essentially using his political career to cover his gang-related activities.

Yes, absolutely. ALL government employees should be...

Will it ever happen?

Not a chance. Wanna know why? Because THEY are the ones that would legislate such a thing- and therefore it will never happen.

Yes - all government employees (federal, provincial, regional & municipal) should be subject to drug testing

I am not a government employee (salary is not paid by the public / taxpayer... but I would pass any drug test at any time

So what your not a government employee and you would pass. Why limit it too government staff? So no drug testing for commercial pilots, dentists, oilr/gas riggers, heavy equipment operators, truck drivers, private doctors, train engineers, etc.?

Can we somehow meld this thread into the threads where people complain about government action as a violation of the whole world's privacy rights? I'm looking with interest towards the explanation of how this would be OK and the NSA etc. . . are not.

you don't see how different standards may apply to Joe Schmoe and to a politician who is entrusted with Joe Schmoe's money?

There should be cavity searches performed at City Hall for anyone working there.
