Here I go again. It seems like I go through a lot of tires but I have a few vehicles to deal with and I really don't like "all season" tires. That explains all the bloody tires in my life.
So I go to tirerack and start shopping for what I term "good" tires. Ones that will last me three or four summers and are top notch for low rolling resistance and handling. I end up with three candidates :
1) Yokohama ADVAN S.4
2) Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus
3) Pirelli Cinturato P7
The number (3) there looks like something I have never heard of and it looks like they cost an arm and a testicle. However they are the only ones that seem to match my criteria. I avoid anything from Goodyear or Firestone merely on grounds that they have really sucked in the past. Actually, that is not being fair or honest. In truth I went to a Goodyear shop in Cobourg Ontario and went looking for top of the line winter tires for my daughters Hyundai. Little itty bitty 13 inch tires and I was hoping for Blizzaks. I told them to not go cheap and get me top of the line winters. When I arrived to pick up the car it had some "made in china" crap called WaanLee or similar and they already had my $800. I looked at them and siad "what the fuck is this shit?" Yes, I do recall saying exactly that.
They said "supply is limited on 13 inch winter tires so this is the best we can do".
To this I said "in that case I'll give you $60 each for that trash and you can give me the difference back."
Oh well to this an argument started in which I told them to go fuck themselves and I would be back on Monday ( it was a Saturday ) to see the owner about this shit. I do believe I was fairly fucking livid and I may have said "buddies, you're fucking crooks and liars and I am okay with jail time to put you in a hospital ". Words to that effect. I was in the army as a combat soldier for well over a decade and I have, how shall we say it, anger issues? Yeah .. I don't like being fucked over to my face and I have been known to stand my ground and to end up in front of a judge. In every case I was well within my right to be outraged and often just a tad over the line in terms of response. C'est la fucking vie.
When Monday came the place was locked up and a "out of business" sign on the door. Sure enough the Goodyear in Cobourg Ontario had been picked clean by the owners I guess and then bankrupted. That was why they could not get me tires. Because the assholes were out of business.
So that is why I never darken the door of a Goodyear ever again.
Back on topic .. my Toyota Camry needs tires and I'm fine with spending money for a good safety level. To me, safety is worth every penny.
Okay .. end of my little monologue.
lankey
