Shen Yun

Hello Everyone!

For a couple of years now I've been contemplating going and seeing this performance. http://www.shenyun.com/ Has anyone seen it and if so would you recommend the experience? I haven't treated myself to anything like this in a while and think it's time I step out again.

Your opinion(s) are very much appreciated!

I haven't seen the show, but I've read that the show is peppered with Falun Gong religious rhetoric. I guess the dance and music part is well put together, but prepare for a sappy sales pitch of sorts if you end up going.

Hmm, interesting, I didn't know that. Well if I can fend off the MLM aspect of my second job/business I think I can withstand the Falun Gong portion of the show. It's the dance and music part that is attracting me. I've seen plays like Lion King and Phantom of the Opera in the past and didn't enjoy them all that much. I really liked The Buddy Holly Story and Stomp. I never saw Blue Man Group or Cirque du Soleil but would like to see them both some day as well. Anything from anyone who's seen Shen Yun?

This is exactly why my (Asian) GF doesn't want to see it. The rhetoric deters me as well.

I have seen the show twice - different years. The costumes, the dancing, the backgrounds and props and choreography are all
top of the line and beautiful to watch. As noted above, "political" aspects intrude every 15 minutes or so into what would otherwise
be an enormously wonderful show.

If you can tune out to Falun Gong aspect of it - and just enjoy the show - great.
If you can't - save your money and see something like the Chinese acrobats when they come to town.

Cheers

Don't bother with Blue Man over rated. Go to Vegas. See the Circe shows there. I can highly recommend Zoomanity, Mystere and Ka. Looking forward to O at some point.

I went with a client and his business partner some years ago and really wanted to check out a show while there but the partner, who was the financial backer of the business was more into gambling, so we both were more or less on his agenda. If I ever make my way down there again I'll for sure check it out!
