Re: Zion Williamson, (post #14):
I high percentage of players drafted by the NBA from Duke University have been disappointing in the pro game.
NBA first round draft picks from Duke since 1980:
Mike Gminski, ('80, #7), Johnny Dawkins, ('86, #10), Mark Alarie, ('85, #18), Danny Ferry, ('89, #2), Alaa Abdelnaby, ('90, #25), Christian Laettner, ('92, #3 after Shaq and Alonzo Mourning), Bobby Hurley, ('93, #7), Grant Hill, ('94, #3), Cherokee Parks, ('95, #12), Roshown McLeod, ('98, #20), Elton Brand, ('99, #1), Trajan Langdon, ('99, #11), Corey Maggette, ('99, #13), William Avery, ('99, #14), Shane Battier, ('01, #6), Jay Williams, (PG), ('02, #2), Mike Dunleavy Jr, ('02, #3), Dahntay Jones, ('03, #20), Luol Deng, ('04, #7), Shelden Williams, ('06, #5), JJ Redick, ('06, #11), Gerald Henderson, ('09, #12), Kyrie Irving, ('11, #1), Nolan Smith, ('11, #21), Austin Rivers, ('12, #10), Miles Plumlee, ('12, #26), Mason Plumlee, ('13, #11), Jabari Parker, ('14, #2), Rodney Hood, ('14, #23), Jahil Okofor, ('15, #3), Justise Winslow, ('15, #10), Tyus Jones, ('15, #24), Brandon Ingram, ('16, #2), Luke Kennard, ('17, #12), Harry Giles, ('17, #20), Marvin Bagley III, ('18, #2), Wendell Carter Jr, ('18, #7), Grayson Allen, ('18, #21), Zion Williamson, ('19, #1), RJ Barrett, ('19, #3), Jalen Johnson, ('21, #20).
There are a few stars, several rotation players, some bench warmers, and a lot of crap outs on that list.
A comparable list for the same period from schools like North Carolina, Kentucky, of Connecticut would have a LOT more household names. Coach K recruits college basketball players. Rick Pitino recruits future NBA players.
