Great deal for MIA. Even if he doesn't resign, the Heat will have enough cap space to get a serious FA and with a lottery pick, could bounce back quickly with youth.
I wouldn't be surprised if they flip Marion to another contender before the deadline, for some cheap talent.
The problem with so much cap room is that the Heat have Dwayane Wade, Udonis Haslem, and garbage. Top free agents don't want to go to a team like that, and you have to overpay them to get them to come. That eats up the cap pretty fast, but there are too many holes to fill. It's the same situation that's been going on in Atlanta for years. No free agents want to play for the Hawks, because they suck every year, and no one goes to their games, because the hoops fans in Atlanta are Georgia Tech fans.
I predicted Shaq would be traded in my sports predictions for 2008 thread, but the Suns weren't one of the places I thought he'd go. Opportunities to win championships in the NBA are rare, and this counters the Lakers' aquisition of Pau Gasol. Two and a half months plus playoffs with Shawn Marion is worth some young talent to a lot of teams, Portland might be a good fit. They seem to be loaded with young, athletic talent, but little experience, and they have Greg Oden added to their bigs for next year.
