This is an excellent trade. Shaq's a big body in the middle, they no longer need his points, but his experience and size....Great help...Provided he stays healthy.

You're joking right? Tying up cap space at $40 over the next two years and pretty much being a big pylon seems quite a hefty sum to pay. I would say the sun has set for all you Nash fans on his title hopes.

Great deal for MIA. Even if he doesn't resign, the Heat will have enough cap space to get a serious FA and with a lottery pick, could bounce back quickly with youth.

I wouldn't be surprised if they flip Marion to another contender before the deadline, for some cheap talent.

The problem with so much cap room is that the Heat have Dwayane Wade, Udonis Haslem, and garbage. Top free agents don't want to go to a team like that, and you have to overpay them to get them to come. That eats up the cap pretty fast, but there are too many holes to fill. It's the same situation that's been going on in Atlanta for years. No free agents want to play for the Hawks, because they suck every year, and no one goes to their games, because the hoops fans in Atlanta are Georgia Tech fans.

I predicted Shaq would be traded in my sports predictions for 2008 thread, but the Suns weren't one of the places I thought he'd go. Opportunities to win championships in the NBA are rare, and this counters the Lakers' aquisition of Pau Gasol. Two and a half months plus playoffs with Shawn Marion is worth some young talent to a lot of teams, Portland might be a good fit. They seem to be loaded with young, athletic talent, but little experience, and they have Greg Oden added to their bigs for next year.

I think he'll be reinvigorated. 20 minutes of decent Shaq per game and the Suns have made a good deal.

I have to admit I thought you were insane when you expected a big return for Shaq. I still think your insane, lol, but so is Steve Kerr!!!!

I thought if there were to be a trade it might be for Ben Wallace + a first, or bad contract + non lotto first. Not real value like Marion.

The risk might pay off for Kerr. It will be interesting to see.

He seems to like the towns with lots of Latinas. LA, Miami and now Phoenix. (He had no choice with being drafted by Orlando.)

It might be just the thing they need.... but only if Shaq can actually stay healthy for a playoff run. It will be fun to watch how this all plays out... but I think it's a big risk for the Suns... It certainly is going to make the 2nd half of the season exciting!!!!

How much fun will a Lakers vs. Suns playoff match up be!!!

A big man rotation of Shaq, Stoudemire, and Diaw sharing the minutes at the 4 and 5 can be devestating in a playoff series. There's always a fresh body to bring in, and that's a major bonus, if teams want to open up the floor.

Have you noticed the Shaq always seems to miss a significant portion of the schedule around this time of year? It's as if he can play 80 games, but not 80 games plus playoffs, so he takes a mid season break before playing his second half.
