I'm not sure how that would work on an under-cover basis, but he has expressed an interest in going into Law Enforcement for some time now.

Great.

A guy that can't shoot free throws is now going to be carrying and possibly shooting a gun. Geeeshhhh !

...good for Shaq!...

...I'm not an expert on law enforcement...where does it say that in order to carry and properly/accurately use a pistol that you should a certain free-throw percentage?...different mechanics...different environment...different factors/variables...Shaq wants to do good deeds...Shaq has chosen an honourable path...what about all the leadership training and experience that Shaq has - that can be transferred to LE...yes, can make a few jokes about Shaq, but in the end, this is a good thing...

Typical Bullshit

Can you believe this ? I mean, anybody can recognize him ?

This is the typical bullshit reaction when a Black athlete tries to do something good and give back to the community.

Instead of a "way to go Shaq" type of comment some people are making fun of it...

Typical Stupidity !!!

Hey, wait a second ! You have to be smarter if you want to play that race card ! Race is not the issue here. The problem is , as I said, who does not recognize him ? Unless he can loose 100 lbs and grow a beard.

I'd have to agree with ice_dog, I don't think that bringing up the race card was appropriate within the context of this thread.

It's not a "race card" it's fact my friend. Another enduring legacy of the OJ trial is the "race card" now get's questioned everytime someone brings up the bias in the media, and bias in any discussion. There is a distinct bias, and it's evident in things like this.

Don't know Icedog personally, so I am addressing him personally. However, many of my friends/co-workers, and acquaintances are exactly the same. They do not have black/colored friends or co-workers etc, and the only thing that they ever have to say about blacks are usually directed to negativity about black athletes.

So when Alonzo Mourning does not want to sign with the Raptors, he is a
no good greedy #$@^* and a @#!)*$# etc... but when Eli Manning says that he will not play for San Diego if they draft him, it's a "smart move".

Ricky Williams is a bad guy because he failed an NFL drug tests.... Ross Rebegliati gets his gold medal back and becomes a hero in the process.

How often do you hear about how a black athlete gives back to the community... not that often... how often do you hear something negative about a black athlete... probably everytime a black athlete does something negative...

Now I realize that sex, drugs and scandals sell newspapers, but I believe that the bias is much worse when the athlete is black.

Sorry s&e - I don't buy it in this case, and IMO your over reacting given the context of this thread. I think ice_dog's comment had nothing to do with race and everything to do with the fact that were talking about one of the world's most famous athletes/people - who happens to be over 7 feet tall - going under-cover. I would'nt read too much into it.

Maybe I was being overly sensitive. I thought that this news deserved a better reaction than someone making idiotic fun of it...

Appoint with Eye Doctor Recommeded

If you see this as a case of stereo-typing against blacks, it is the way you see it. Better see your eye doctor right away.

Once again with emphasis.... I do not know you or anything about you, so I do not know whether it is typical of you or whether this is a case of bias against blacks..

The point is that there is a definite bias on how blacks are portrayed... whether you agree or not, the fact is that it is there...

Ice_dog...... have you every gotten lost in a large American city??? Drove around for a while.... stopped to ask directions, only to realize that you are in an area that is 100% black? or Hispanic? how did you feel? Have you heard a friend tell a scary story... and the scary part was that he was walking down and alley and there were 4 big black guys just hanging around watching him... and that he was scared? 20 years ago (or even today) do you believe that blacks were not meant to be QBs in the NFL?

Have any of you noticed that there are now more GAY/HOMOSEXUAL couples on TV, in the movies etc. than there are inter racial couples?? What does do you think that means???

Ice_dog... I have glasses.... you might need to get yourself some colored glasses..... they say never judge a man unless you have walked a mile in his shoes....
