She's a rare talent that the world deserves to see on the big stage.

Who at this point would object to the notion of not testing for THC in any sport?

It doesn't increase athletic performance......

Time for the IOC to get their collective heads out of their asses.
THC is a banned substance and all the athletes know it and most of the athletes refrained from it, it's not the IOC's fault that one couldn't.

While I think pot should be removed from their ban list, it is not like those athletes arent aware there is testing. It's not like they secretly added pot to the list recently, it's been a banned substance from the Olympics for as long as they've been able to test for it. This isn't a gender issues. Plenty of men have been banned from the Olympics after testing positive for banned substances.

Will this case change things? Maybe. Maybe not. But the faux outrage is silly. She knew it was banned, she knew she'd be tested, this shouldn't be a shock.
Yes^^^...I give her credit for admitting/owning/accepting it...she didn't call for an investigation or a "system is unfair' thing...

IOC bends the rules when it suits their needs. They new to update many rules so we can actually have the best athletes on earth available to compete.

So much about the Olympics is tied up in race/gender politics. If you are a white snowboarder it’s all good to burn a phatty, but if you are a black female and so the same you get banned!

In my eyes, too many black female athletes have been made an example of this year. Semenya gave up after fighting in court for years just for the right to race without having to artificially lower her naturally highly testosterone levels. 2 more Namibian females banned as well for the same reason. Now this marijuana related ban and banning the soul cap. It’s all a pointed exercise directed at one group. These are just a few examples.

Some of the worlds best won’t be there. Why watch the games at all? I won’t. I’ll spare myself the endless Gatorade, McDonald’s, coke and visa ads and the white washing of the games.

Until they give us a view of all the orgies happening post events, I’m done watching.

Some female (and male) athletes have posed nude.

It'll be interesting to see how the IOC deal with the trans issue.

And why is it banned and alcohol is not?

It's time to step up and repeal this ridiculous banning. Make THC a substance which is acceptable under IOC rules.

Can you provide sources? Every other example I have seen given of other athletes smoking pot or whatever were outside of the period of testing for the Olympics they were involved in, which makes them false equivalents.

There are many over the counter medications that contain banned substances, Sudafed is one of them...there is a big list of them and the athletes know of them...she takes all responsibility for it, she is not blaming the IOC.

Cannabis users have their own championships...

I don’t think the best athletes are smoking cannabis...

You seem like a good lil researcher, go find them yourself. Everyone here hates doing a little work.

And, your saying its cool to smoke up outside of testing periods, but not during..ok...got you...Micheal Phelps went and got lit right after the games and stayed high for months before he faced any ban/suspension, and he got "clean" just in time for the next games. It should not matter when or why you use marijuana. Its time to reverse the ban, let the best race.

And incase you didn't know , The IOC sets the rules globally via their independent sporting bodies. They pass those rules down to each individual nation, thus it starts with the IOC and ends with the IOC. IDGAF that USADA disqualified Richardson, they were following rules set by the IOC who founded the World Anti-Doping Agency who put the rules in place. Connect some dots next time.

Cannibis should be removed from the list of banned substances, for all sports, since it does not enhance performance. It already has been , for some. The Olympic Committee needs to keep up with current Sport's Science.

Thing is... it's legal in Canada, and becoming legal in more and more states.

However... it is not legal on kostnof the planet, whether it is widely used nor not.

It will not come off the banned list as many countries are to Conservative to remove it.

This is going to have impacts for Canadian athletes in the future.
