I like to play around with them. They usually just hang up, but some get angry. Had a girl last week who started into a lot of back and forth when I asked her what her mother's cunt tasted like.
If I get a call or an email, I tell them I am French Canadian and request to speak French. They will hang up immediately. LOL.

It's likely a scam. Just ignore it.

I still remember the time I got a call form a CRA scammer just before 5 on a Friday night a couple of weeks before X-mas.

I was tempted to call them back and ask if they honestly expected me to believe that even the most dedicated government employee would be making a call like that so close to quitting time on a Friday and starting legal proceedings a couple of weeks before most government offices would be shutting down for the holidays.
Don't forget CRA has offices across Canada. If the call was legitimate, it could have been from BC. I'm sure it's CRA's practice that other cities are responsible. A CRA employee shouldn't come in contact with their neighbour's tax returns or to make collection calls. It makes sense to me. Discretion and privacy.

As an aside, I've been teleworking from home since Covid began. I've lost count how many courier deliveries I've missed. But if I click the link, I can re-schedule delivery. :D

I live in Ontario, I'm assuming that the CRA office in Ottawa or close to the city I live in would have been calling and not at that time.

Why the hell would a CRA office in BC call someone in Ontario?

One reason is to eliminate the possibility of your neighbour calling you.

Hey SexB, it's Jack your next door neighbour and CRA enforcement officer. We have some questions about your 2023 tax return.

What office (city) do you send your printed tax return to ? I live in Ottawa and send my printed tax return to Sudbury. I'd rather that, than give it to my neighbour who works for CRA, to take it to his office. There is A LOT of personal information on a tax return.
Also, finance people are intensely aware of the element of time. And stockbrokers are aware of time zones as well.
Think about it.

It's for the same reason I don't want to deal with a banker who lives next door to me or on the same street. I once mentioned to my local bank manager that his staff should not be from the same neighbourhood.

Not sure about now but one insurance company once told me they want their agents to live in the same neighbourhood as their clients.

It's all about confidentiality and privacy.

I hear you. My business is my business. I'm not being deceitful or fraudulent, but I'd hate to have my neighbour's have eyes on everything I do.
Speaking of which, we all got licence renewal refunds. I'm thinking the province is replacing that revenue with red light cams and speed cams fines. I find I'm driving like an old lady, but I'm sure I'm going to miss a school zone speed limit sign and and travel at the default city speed of 50km
