Yes, some would also argue that keeping a human in a cell for 25 years is inhumane and a violation of his/her Charter rights.
Well, we do have laws which allow for people to be incarcerated for 25 years. We do that to protect them from harming others. You do the crime, you do the time. Don't want to go to jail, don't kill someone. It's really quite simple.

You can't guarantee anything to anyone in prison. The following is from a CBC News story on what Russell Williams could expect when he was sentenced to prison. Of course, it's referring to Paul Bernardo. I also read somewhere that Bernardo is/was even harassed by the guards.
