I get all the Incredible benefits, I'm talking about the mental state of of who they except
Bullies
Liars
Aggressive abusers who seem to enjoy giving g people a hard time.
I agree there are a lot of scumbags out there so why would anyone want to have to deal with them unless they get off on that shit.
The reasons could be multi-faceted and I wouldn't pass judgement without data. People that sign up to policing might also enjoy unpredictability and danger, whereas most average people prefer mundanity, familiarity, and low-risk endeavors. When everyone is running away from danger, the officer's duty is to run toward it.
For every rogue cop video (usually posted from the US, where policing isn't necessarily comparable to Canada) there are thousands of interactions between police and the public that are respectful.
For the record, police recruits in Toronto are largely university educated (over 92% have post-secondary education), even though the official line is that only a high school diploma is required.
The irony is that most people who complain about police are never willing to or are incapable of becoming police themselves. It's as though they recognize the inherent danger of the job and that the job is far more difficult than they let on. It's as if they know that they wouldn't survive the same level of scrutiny that they so freely direct at police who are currently serving. So they armchair quarterback instead of doing the dirty work because they would fail at it even worse than the police that they condemn. They'd be too scared to deal with murderers, scofflaws, karens, violent mouthy arrogant emboldened citizens, drunks, addicts, homeless, and the mentally ill.
