71-year-old gunman shot two robbers as they tried to hold up Florida internet cafe

A 71-year old man thwarted a robbery at a Florida internet cafe on Friday when he shot two would-be assailants and the entire ordeal was captured on security tape. The two robbers burst through the doors of the Palms Internet Cafe in Ocala and ordered everyone to get down as they waved a handgun at dozens of customers. But they didn't expect Samuel Williams to pull out his own weapon and fire, injuring both of the criminals and saving the lives of his fellow Floridians.

Fox reports that the incident occurred just after 10 pm. on Friday. The surveillance video shows the two men wearing dark clothes barged into the cafe with a baseball bat and a gun.Witnesses told police that the robbers demanded that the 30 patrons get down on the floor and give them money

Terrified customers put their hands up in the air, all of them following orders except for Mr Williams. Kneeling slightly, Mr Williams starts shooting at the men, surprising them with his own attack. The thugs scramble to exit, falling over each other as Mr Williams chases them out of the cafe. Once he had sufficiently scared them off, he locked the door and waited for the police to come.

The two men got into a nearby car and fled, witnesses said. Mr Williams told officers that he was scared the robbers would hurt someone, especially his wife who was sitting nearby him in the cafe. Officers got a phone call shortly after about two men at a Marion Oaks home who were telling people they had been shot at a nearby baseball field in Ocala.

Investigators searched the field to find evidence of an attack, but found none and arrested the men. Davis G. Dawkins, 19, and Duwayne Henderson, 19, were transported to Shands Hospital at the University of Florida in Gainesville. In the heat of the moment, Mr Williams managed to shoot Dawkins' left arm and Henderson's left buttock and his right hip.

Neither one of the teens have a criminal record, authorities said, and both were charged with attempted robbery

Not only a baller, but a smart baller. He had the smarts to shoot them in the legs and arms so as not to kill them but wanted them maimed so they'll be arrested later. He seemed cool as a cucumber under the pressure, now why can't cops do that instead of shoot to kill with a take no prisoners attitude. All the cops should see this video to see how it's done right.

btw, you have to be pretty stupid now to pull something like that off in the State of Florida considering almost everyone carries a gun now and will use it to defend themselves legally.

FG, very few people have the capability of attempting to wound someone with a gun, especially a hand gun. With hand guns its point and shoot those perps were very fortunate the guy was not a pro otherwise they would have been shot in the chest.

Thats why in self-defense classes they teach you to aim for the torso.

If you aim for the head then you'll most likely miss

He probably was trying to shoot them in the torso but he probably missed. Hitting a moving target with a handgun is hard. Hitting a moving target with a handgun while your heart is bursting out of your chest and your life is flashing before your eyes is an incredible feat. In any case, even if all his shots missed, it was a good example of effective suppressive fire--those guys stopped what they were doing and ran for cover. Nobody just stands there while bullets hit all around them. There's a rare moment of truth in Hollywood in the Shootist, where he's target shooting with another fellow, who says something like, hey how can you be a famous gunslinger, when my shots more accurate than yours? To which the Shootist replies, "friend, there's nobody shooting back at you."

If the same scenario happened here, the police would end up charging and arresting the old man for assault! That's how fucked up the law is here. It's all about the rights of the accused and the suspects, not about the rights of the victims.
Look at this Magnotta fucker........his preliminary trial isn't scheduled until March 2013! Talk about the wheels of justice turning slowly!! :frusty:

Props to the old man.

hahahah shooting at their legs lol
stop watching movies go to the range and experience it first hand for yourself.

a trained cop on average will only hit his target 2 out of 10 shots...adrenaline, fact that the guy is moving makes it really hard. as a cop you are trained to aim for the center mass, and to not stop until you're out of bullets. considering that most 9mm handguns have a capacity of 16/17 rounds you're lucky to hit the guy 3-4 times before you need to reload

Awesome.
Too bad in Canada, law abiding citizens can't carry guns to protect themselves.

BTW: Try watching this video while listening to the Benny Hill theme. The robbers tripping over themselves is hilarious!

I don't think they would. However, he would:

1. Be charged with carrying a concealed weapon, and

2. Have his firearms licensed revoked for making unauthorized use of his restricted weapon, as self defense is not "target shooting"

However I think they would accept it as lawful self defense and not charge him with assault with a weapon.
