I have to clear out out a condo as part of an estate sale.
I’m amazed how much more effective Facebook marketplace is than kijiji.
Guess I’m old school.

A while back, I did a direct comparison experiment of posting identical ads on FM and Kijiji for the same few items that I was selling. I was astonished that FM typically gave me about 10x the replies, so I completely switched over.
However, if you're looking to buy something, it's best to check both FM and Kijiji, because I find that some items tend to be posted more on Kijiji or FM.

Agreed. I found more traffic on FM for sure. If you're looking to buy something, I check both and often find that on Kijiji people want to get some value out of whatever they are selling. If it's on FM they just want to get rid of it and the prices are often a little lower. In my experience, at least.
Interesting. Do items posted on Facebook tend to be higher end than on Kijiji? Most of the stuff I want to sell are lower end (e.g. used sex doll, just kidding).
I found stuff on Kijiji was maybe higher end, but even taking that into consideration then FM had lower prices for the same items. If I have stuff I want to get rid of, I'll sell it on FM. If it's something that has some value and I want a specific prices for it, I'll put it on Kijiji and wait. Can take weeks to sell but it will eventually.
And don't sell your sex doll, start a brothel! Lol.
Even more interesting. I sold a couple of non-working bikes on Kijiji. Sold a wheelchair. I find electronics older than 2-3 years really hard to sell because everybody wants the greatest and latest. For example, nobody wants a 2K camera anymore. They all want 4K.
For some unknown reason I thought FM would attract a higher class clientele.

I think that the difference between Facebook and Kijiji is largely a demographic difference, with old-school folks staying with Kijiji, and not knowing that Facebook Marketplace even exists and has more traffic.
One doesn't have higher end stuff than the other.
Just to share one particular experience about the difference between Facebook and Kijiji, I am looking to buy a used subwoofer (for home stereo... not for car). Kijiji had far more subwoofers for home stereo and home theatre, while Facebook Marketplace had far more subwoofers for cars. You can develop your theories about why this is... I'm still trying to find a good explanation.
Bottom-line, if I'm looking to buy stuff, I check both Facebook and Kijiji. If I'm selling, I almost always post on Facebook only.

There are some totally bizarre purchases online which I have never been able to figure out
But I always use eBay over Kijiji or FB
(ps if using FB make a fake / second profile; dont let idiots see your real account!)
Case in point
I posted a DVD for sale, with a link to Walmart showing what it was
I fully explained (in my description) that I was selling it on eBay for a loss because it was my mistake (bought a duplicate and could not return it)
Some fools kept bidding and in the end I made a profit on it even after paying eBay their cut
????
Old cell phones are another
It amazes me people pay hundreds of dollars for something marked not working / incomplete
Esp when for that price you can buy a brand new one instead
I have had to do two estate closures, so it can be quite a task to get rid of everything. Been using Kijiji, but was curious about FM. One thing it makes no sense is when something will sell. I had junk that I really debated on tossing out, sell in no time and good items take a year to sell. Pricing makes no difference, everybody wants to deal like Rick Harrison. Lots of time wasting involved, but good deals both buying and selling can be had if you know the value.

I cannot thank you enough for starting this thread! I had given up on looking for something and because of this thread I was able to find what I was looking for on marketplace.
@Indiana PM me if you care to hear the full story.
