Try posting your resume on Workopolis, that way potential employers can see what you have to offer. I posted mine about 4 weeks ago and have had about 20 hits, mostly by headhunters. Sure beats the 100 or so resumes I have sent out with no replys. Keep those spirits up. Good luck.

For the mean time, do some volunteer work (not paid ) to pad up your resume. You could also claim that you wee out of the country for the last several years. Work your way up in smaller businesses before you try the corperate world.

P.s.

Do not accept a job from anyone offering you one from TERB, as they will then know your identity and can cause trouble for you. Do not let anyone know of your past if you want to break free and change your life.

Good Luck,

I would like to personally thank everyone that has gone out of their way to try to help. I am not worried about my past identity being found out at all. People get into trouble in life when they have too many skeletons in their closet. I never hid anything from my friends or family and if an employer ever found out and fired me because of it, I guess he/she would be a smaller person than I.

???

LS1, good luck in your search. Went thru that exercise not long ago. Let your friends, contacts, neighbors etc know. Many openings are not posted, by the time they are, competing with many applicants, especially when its posted on web.

Be careful of who you let know of your past, as it can backfire. People love to gossip. It can cap your future. Depends on how horny your co-workers are may ask for special favors. Some places do background check for criminal records and hire consulting firms for reference check as many HR dept are overworked and swamped by Web resuming blasting.

Kurt and Dr. Z have good suggestions. Make sure you get your resume review. A standout resume will get an interview where you can shine with your skills dealing with people. Try finding out some details of the job by calling hiree if # is listed. A well qualified buddy almost didn't get an interview as his resume didn't highlight the particular skill he has, that the employer is looking for.

Be careful about lying to employer. Easy ground for dismissal even years later. In terms of the work gap, careful about using personal health issue as reason, employer may think you may be health liability.

Fullmetal, stop living in the past. We all should have do a lot of things. Stop driving looking at the rear view mirror. Make the best of of what you got. Now don't go and derail other people's post. Learn some manners.

Unemployed 'Executive'
Turns Over a New Leaf

By Jerry Guidera

From The Wall Street Journal Online

After a long career of crime, Brian O'Dea is trying to turn his life around. But instead of keeping his stint as a drug smuggler under wraps, he's relying on it as a credential in his job search.

"Co-owned and participated in the executive level management of 120 people world-wide in a successful pot-smuggling venture with revenues in excess of US$100 million annually," Mr. O'Dea proclaims in a classified ad he placed in a Toronto newspaper last month. "Expert in all levels of security ... extensive computer skills ... well-traveled and speak English, French and Spanish."

Headlined "Former Marijuana Smuggler," the ad further notes that Mr. O'Dea recently completed a 10-year jail sentence in Canada for "importing 75 tons of marijuana into the United States." The Toronto resident is now seeking "a legal and legitimate means" to support his wife and child.

After weeding through more than 150 responses from "pranksters and morning-radio talk-show types," Mr. O'Dea says he has a half-dozen solid job offers, including some from large Canadian corporations he declines to name.

The 52-year-old says he has been dope-free since 1986, when he left his five partners and ring of growers, runners and hustlers. He reckons his extensive experience will give him the leg up on others being dumped into the job market in the slowing economy. Not to mention his references, "available from friends, family and the U.S. attorney."

Would you be willing to relocate to europe? I have several girls working in my european office, some since the start (7 yrs ago) that came from the "business" and made the change. The hardest part is the drop in income which is cushioned by my legendary and excessive generosity. If you;'re interested, you can reply.
