I guess with the death of FT, pretty much every one of Moses Znaimer's ground breaking TV shows is gone. NOW THAT IS A TRAGEDY.

CITY TV used to the be best. Completely Toronto centric, with unique thought provoking programing. Shows like FT, The New Music, Sex Television, Queer Television, Book Television, Media Television = all gone. Even Ed the Sock and Speaker's Corner are fucking gone. Now City TV is just a steaming pile of lowest common denominator shit like everything else. Bring on Dog the Fucking Bounty Hunter. That's what City TV has been reduced to.
Looks like it's actually CTV that's cancelling FT. They must have got the show when they purchased CHUM. But Citytv has indeed gone from groundbreaking to crap since being bought by Rogers, and CTV never aired much original programming to begin with. The reality is, thanks to the CRTC's signal-substitution rule, Canadian TV stations can maximize their profits by simply simulcasting American shows... thus offering absolutely nothing of value whatsoever to the general viewing public.

^^^ What's really tragic is that we will never see the like of a City TV again as long as we all shall live.

In the end, it all boiled down to a buck.

What's sad too is what has become of 299 Queen St. West since City left. It was always a hub of activity with the Speaker's corner, The New Music, and all kinds of shows and performances going on.
Now when I pass the corner. It's mostly very dark with black blinds drawn and only a banner for the Marilyn Denis Show.
So sad to see such a vibrant corner look like a closed store or a warehouse now.
Yes, I noticed that too when I was down on Queen West a couple of months ago. It is very sad to see what has become of that corner.

I wish that someone would buy the bones of City TV and start up something similar but 1. CTV would sooner see the place knocked down to the ground, 2. It would be financial suicide because young audiences today just would not embrace it.
