What's truly sad about them (and Ford) is how year after year, decade after decade, their market share in their home market went to imports and their response? "We'll just build trucks, everybody luvs trucks, trucks'll save us."
This is the result of allowing a bunch of myopic beancounters, armed with handy dandy MBAs but NO VISON, take contol of the Big 3.
It has been a slow death for the Big 3 since the beaners took over....

Happened to Chrysler in 55', beaners had taken over a few years earlier, had to be bailed out by SUN LIFE.

If accountants and unions are allowed to run a company, there is only one outcome.

Glad I could help, FAST

Cutting more Fat out

For years The Big 3 have had 'bloated salaried ranks' who are the last to be culled. Now a little belated trimming of the white collar ranks is finally in order...;)

GM: 1,600 will lose jobs in next few days

Robert Snell / The Detroit News / Monday, April 20, 2009

Detroit -- General Motors Corp. has started notifying about 1,600 white-collar workers -- most of whom work in southeast Michigan -- that they will lose their jobs this week as the cash-strapped automaker cuts costs that could help the automaker qualify for up to $16.6 billion in additional federal aid.

The announcement was made by GM North American President Troy Clarke in an e-mail sent to employees today, spokesman Tom Wilkinson said.

"This is part of really restructuring the company to a smaller, leaner company, one that can, as the (Obama) administration requested, be profitable on an ongoing basis," Wilkinson said.

"In these unprecedented times, GM is reinventing every aspect of our business, including our organizational size and structure, to create a lean and agile company," Clarke wrote in the e-mail obtained by the Associated Press.

GM, which has received $13.4 billion in federal loans, has until June 1 to restructure and obtain concessions from key stakeholders such as the United Auto Workers and bondholders, or be forced into filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The job cuts will hit salaried workers across the U.S., but particularly in Metro Detroit locations such as the Renaissance Center, the GM Tech Center in Warren, Milford Proving Grounds, and offices in Pontiac and Grand Blanc.

GM is cutting 3,400 salaried jobs in the U.S. as part of a broader effort to eliminate 47,000 jobs worldwide by the end of the year.

The salaried workers will get a half month's pay and benefits for each full year of service for a maximum six month's of severance pay and benefits.

These white collar prima donnas were excess baggage being a drag on the corp for years. Funny you and your righties have no pity when the hourly ranks are decimated and these hourly guys do the heavy work for these paper shufflers who spend the day going in circles from meaningless meeting to meaningless meetings. Oh and don't forget the white collar prima donnas on average make 25% MORE THAN HOURLY and many make even MORE!..;)

He is happy because they are white collar employees.
In the twisted narrow minded world that Woodpeker occupies, any one who does not pay union dues is at fault for the demise of the auto industry and its only fair they suffer along with the blue collar workers.

It is just another example of how unrealistic and bias his view on the subject is.
Its is a difficult and scary thing for anyone to have to deal with
I personally do not wish it on anyone, white-collar, management or union member as I understand dispite the problems with company the majority of all employees show up every day & put in an honest days work.

It unfortunately is probaly very necessary (and probably 5 years too late) if the company is to survive, which is looking less likely everyday.

I am saying it's about time they got rid of 'deadweight' that were only acting as a drag on the corp, nothing more.
Are you two paper shufflers saying they should keep workers who DO NOT earn their keep, simply because they are prima dona white collar?!?!!?...;)

Better hold on to something, gravity is likely going to end. On this I agree.
