Western Stripteaser On Internet
A Western student's dormitory strip-tease is gaining world-wide exposure over the internet..
However, it's the kind of publicity the university and some of the students involved wish would just go away
It happened 2 months ago and the university says it investigated the incident after hearing rumours about it. It says there were no complaints at the time from the students involved.
However, pictures of the student are now appearing in emails and are on websites everywhere.
The photos show a first year Western student giving a strip tease and lap dance to another student and his friends at his 21st birthday party.
They were taken inside a dorm room and in a hallway of Saugeen-Maitland Hall
Susan Grinrod, in charge of campus residences, says everyone involved was 18-to-21 years old.
She says, " When we heard about it, we talked to her and she told us she was a consenting participatnt and we take position with residents' room that's your private room and different space.. These were consenting adults.
It's a sentiment echoed by the student council president who says, " They were in their own rooms".
The USC and Western don't have any awareness programs planned. They say there already is women's rights and sex education information available year round.
Meanwhile..someone is sending the photos right to students, and the story is grabbing headlines......and the attention of those who live at saugeen..which is also known as "the zoo" for its wild parties.
Many parents are concerned and they say the university needs to do something about it.
A-Channel News reporter Jennifer Palisoc has spoken to the young woman's friends who say this situation is being blown out of proportion and that she's a nice and intelligent person who made the wrong decision. The negative attention is taking its toll on her. Friends say, she hasn't left her room and wants this story to go away. http://www.atv.ca/london/news_22227.aspx
