I have an Asus P4R800-VM motherboard and I want to buy a new SATA controller card.

Here is a link to the motherboard manual: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/sock478/p4r800-vm/e1662_p4r800-vm.pdf (the specs are on page 9)

I'm looking at this controller card: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2984825&CatId=1454

This card requires PCI Express capability (which is newer than the motherboard).

Will the card work with the mobo? I don't care if it's not optimal performance, I just need to know if it will work. In other words, is the card backwards compatible?

Pretty bad reviews for it. I also checked the website and no manual.

My current card has pretty poor installation support (the instructions on their website were literally a photocopied and scanned page) so I'm trying to get something a little better.

Any others?

With your current board, your only option is to get a PCI based card (NOT Express and not backward compatible). And due to low performance with PCI solution, there are not too many choices. Do a search on their site and see if there is anything with good review. Post it here to get others' opinions too.

I wouldn't worry too much about the manual because they are kind of plug'n play.
