Ontario's health minister speaks as province expands rapid test access

Starting Wednesday, province will begin distributing rapid antigen tests at grocery stores, pharmacies

Shows just how far off the mark Ontario is. Its like Ford had no clue what the other Premiers had in mind
Not sure of your point here.
Is it that Ford should go against health officials and ignore Covid like the other Premiers?
Or is it that making free rapid tests for people who want them readily available is a bad idea?

case fatality rate in Canada is 1.1% so your math is off, that is 98.9%. Might not seem like a big difference but it’s an additional 350 deaths.
More than that, risk of Covid isn’t solely fatal, there is greatly increased risk of Myocarditis and long haul symptoms. Not to mention that for most people, they actually care about not passing it on to loved ones who are at greater risk of severe reaction.
To imply that worry of death is the only reason someone would want to avoid Covid is beyond ignorant.

*Yemen has a 1.2% fully vaccination rate and a 18% case fatality rate. That is what happens without vaccination and that would mean nearly 6.5 million dead Canadians at that rate.

CORRECTION- the above 6.5 million dead is assuming all Canadians had Covid. I should have based it on actual cases which would mean 566,000 dead from Covid in Canada. My mistake.
I left the original post unedited. But the main point remains, 18% case fatality is the minimum we should expect in a theoretical no vaccines Canada, proving it’s overwhelming efficacy.
I have to think that 18% CFR is due to limited or non-existent testing.
That number just doesn't seem in line with other reports.

Possibly but I can only go by stats available.

Where are you getting your numbers from?

Yemen is a nation of 29 million people, has had 11,000 covid cases, and 2000 dead. These numbers are from the start of the "pandemic" to present day.
Right, that's a case fatality rate of about 18%, just like he said.
2000 deaths out of 11,000 cases.

As I said, this feels like a lack of testing and there were probably many more cases.

Sweden ends COVID-19 testing as pandemic restrictions lifted

Sweden has halted wide-scale testing for COVID-19 even among people showing symptoms of an infection, putting an end to the mobile city-square tent sites, drive-in swab centres and home-delivered tests that became ubiquitous during the pandemic and provided essential data for tracking its spread.

The move puts the Scandinavian nation at odds with most of Europe, but some experts say it could become the norm as costly testing yields fewer benefits with the easily transmissible but milder Omicron variant and as governments begin to consider treating COVID-19 like they do other endemic illnesses.

"We have reached a point where the cost and relevance of the testing is no longer justifiable." Swedish Public Health Agency chief Karin Tegmark Wisell told the national broadcast SVT this week.

yes, I have since acknowledged that I erred in comparing to Canada that I was doing so if all Canadians had Covid. That is obviously not the case, and likewise not all in Yemen have Covid.
However the math remains correct and indisputable: vaccinations make a massive difference, 18% case fatality rate would mean over half a million Canadians (of 3.148 million cases) died from Covid rather than 35000.
Vaccination has brought our fatality rate to 1.1%
That's also unlikely.
There are also improvements in treatment that Canada may or may not have more access to.

Vaccines were never the only element in play.

Others are doing away with testing, Ontario feels that more testing is required even thought case counts are on the decline.

WHO noted that cases counts world wide are down 17% versus last week and down 50% in the States.

Testing does nothing to stop or slow the spread so why waste the money buying tests. Ontario does not even track the test results.

Testing would have been extremely important if they had done it last year.
It was a dropped ball by both Canada and the US.

Wastewater testing is the way to go now.

The government really needs to build up its permanent COVID infrastructure to the level of something like the Flu.

These are rapid tests for your personal use and not tracked or reported.
The PCR tests for the general public were stopped weeks ago.
Peolple who care about others around them, which would seem not you, would use them if they develop symptoms instead of guessing.
If they test positive they would take the appropriate precautions.

Yemen is one of the poorest countries in the world and is riven by civil war - among other things. So how about "the seriously ill just simply die in the desert and never even make it to a settlement, let alone a hospital.

LOL baseless claims. I'll wait for the body count in Yemen to reach 5 million.

You take a single country out of dozens that can easily be used to debunk your claim but why bother. https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/data/mortality
Geezee, Mr K!!

Yemen is pretty much the poorest, most primitive country in the world. It's certainly in there w Chad, Mali and Somalia!

So how did Yemen - which could only afford to vaxx less than 2% of its population - get it so right and Canada fuck up so badly.? Got an explanation for that?

It must really just simply be that the more people who get vaxxed, the more die? Or maybe the fewer hospitals and doctors you have per capita, the fewer die? So doctors, hospitals, medical care and vaccinations actually KILL PEOPLE and don't really save them. It actually is a PLOT!!!

That means if Canada was to scrap the entire vaccination program and all the other modern medication that - so we are told by the Big Pharma global elite - prevent smallpox, polio, syphilis, TB, etc, and simply reverse course to the state of medical care in around 1650, we would actually be healthier.

You're really onto something there, Mr K! All those stories about plagues - like the Black Death and the Plague of London - they were just invented by the Big Pharma global elite to trick the 96% of doctors into taking the fatal killer vaccinations.

OMG!!!! Mr K has figured it all out!

It is excitingly clear that the Omicron has burnt right through the vaccines AND the boosters. The vaccinations do not stop nor slow down the virus. There's no more justifications for mandates and politics is simply not enough.
Wrong. Vaccination cuts infection risk, by 30-50%, even with omicron. Vaccination makes your risk of being hospitalized with covid ~ 1/6 of the unvaccinated and ~1/10 for icu admission.

I was once told by an "educated" inividual that the reason people die once ventilated is that the lungs are over inflated and cause blood clots to lodge in the heart.
