The only sports star to benefit from a parent's management of his/her money was John Macenroe whose dad John MacEnroe Sr.actually help his son invest and protected his earnings from people/things " could not/would not have done in his youth/inexperience-Steffi Graf dad was an a$$hole also involved with fraud/tax evasion etc.If I were a sports star and didn't know who to trust then just shove it into the bank, invest in safe easy CD's or bonds and don't ever give anyone especially lawyers and accountants any power of attorney over one's money-also don't be greedy for the bastards promising huge returns-ala Madoff or Nicolas Cage's money managers etc-earn a "paltry" 5.75 % on the millions then some pe-in-the-sky 19% promised by some shyster.seems tooo easy.

It's amazing that of thousands and thousands of sports stars this was the only case of it's kind.

It may be a not uncommon occurrence for parents to screw this up, but to say this is the only case of proper management by a parent is kinda naive.

Eric Lindros? Williams sisters? Michelle Wie?

Pro tennis is actually a major commercial venture nowadays. For example, Maria Sharapova was identified early as a potential superstar at age 12 (more or less), brought to Florida from Russia and her "sponsers" funded all her expenses for a cut of her future pro earnings.
