Hi guys
Will be spending 6 weeks in San Diego for work starting first week in January (tough life isn't it?) Just wondering if anyone had some pointers or good tips for that area?

go to Tijuana across the border. The San Diego trolley takes you right to the border, 18 miles. Then its like a 5 dollar cab to town. Once there go crazy!

Why bother with the cab. Turn right just past the border, follow the large line heading to the overpass bridge and walk there for free in less than 10 minutes.
Also, watch out for the abject poverty and watch where you go after it gets dark.

Thanks guys, any particular spot in Tijuana? Places to avoid? Scams to watch out for?
a scam. Just walk there. When I went someone took me and stopped at some of the SC. This is during the day from 9am to 5pm. No girls dance at 9am except for one and she may be outside trying to lure you in. Once you are in then she dances. Cover charge or what ever change by club then once inside they change constantly, never give you money to anyone unless it's the waitress/waiter giving you the drink. Exchange the currency at a bank no matter how bad the exchange rate is.
IF you never seen "Born in East LA" then do it soon.

I wouldn't go by myself after dark. Mind you the SD [San Diego kids] underages <21 and under to 16 or so but for sure 18 go there. They just tip to get in and they are in. No law. Literally NO LAW.

When you go, dress like a poor scum. I literally mean that no ring, [ jewelery] watch [ well dollarama watch only when you to go Mex]. Mexico to me was more scarier than South America. Although I blend in and speak the language but still .

have fun

I've been there during the day and was told never drive across so we parked at border. All we did was walk over and do some bartering.

I watched the TV show Red Light Districts and Tijauna was checked out. Definitely very wild...you can have a great time...but also can be very dangerous.

On a side note I got scamed in London, England SOHO district at a "stripclub" were a stripper set outside and lured me in. Once inside a waitress came over and got me to buy a beer and a drink for the dancer. When she came back she said the bill was 100 british pounds for the two drinks...5 pounds for mine and 95 pounds for the girls drink. That was about $250. I said I did not have that on me and they said no problem. They got a bouncer to come take me to the nearest money booth outside. Once I got the money the bouncer took and asked if I wanted to go back to club. I said no way and got the hell out of that area. If that could happen in London, England downtown in the middle of the afternoon, imagine what could happen in Mexico at night. I did talk to a Police office just after and she just laughed at me.

This is exactly why I am a "little" skittish, had almost exactly the same happen to me in Budapest, except the "bill" was around $2000 and 3 bouncers for company. Not my idea of fun.

My experience is way out of date, but when I was in service the hot spots were the Brooklyn and Manhattan bars. The drink scams were minimal.

Well I plucked up my courage, (the action in San Diego sucks big time and is VERY expensive BTW)drove down to the border from Carlsbad, parked the car at the border and took a shuttle across the border to central Tijuana (really hassle free). Once I got off the bus took the firsr yellow cab I came across to the Adelita bar (I did do SOME homework), cab driver agreed 100% with my choice (funny old guy, took great pains to point out the streetwalkers to me, "THey are not clean!" said he)
In the Adelita, was cornered straight away by a chica, who made no bones about what she would do to me "upstairs" (short stay rooms for rent upstairs from the bar, very clean), sticking her tounge in my ear and rubbing my crotch.
SHe would not have been my first choice (bit heavy for my liking) but the flesh was weak and she was strong :), for $50 had a great old time, not exactly GFE but what the hell.
Went back to the bar and started nursing another beer (only $3.50 each actually, but I didn't want to get loaded), then I laid eyes on a real 10 looker (well in my opinion anyway) real slim with 32A's complete with long blonde hair. Fuck I was drooling. A liitle while later I was ready for round number 2 (thanks to Cialis which is freely available at Pharmacias on every street corner, never tried them before, defintely will be doing so aagin), and invited the little hottie to join me for a little interlude upstairs.
She didn't speak a word of English and my Spanish is, shall we say, somewhat limited (OK very limited, dos cerveca por favor limited), but that was not a barrier and I finshed up the afternoon a very happy laddy indeed).
Walked back to the bus terminus in the rain (saved 5 bucks didn't I !!) and then the dreary part started, waiting to get back across the border, dealing with American officialdom (Wonder what would happen if the Mexicans did the same to the USA for a couple weeks?).
Traffic on the way back through SAn Diego was pretty high on the suck scale too (been pissing rain here all weekend). Stopped for a burger and got back to the hotel about 9pm (aren't I a good little Terbie writing this trip report straight away?)
All in all the tab was, $8 for the shuttle, $5 cab ride, $10 Cialis fix, 3 x beers at $3.50 each, 2 x room rentals at $12 each, and 2 x $50 games of hide the sausage. Total of about $160 and some change (threw away a few $1 bills for tips here and there) wasted a lot more money than that for less fun before. I guess a repeat will be in order!
BTW, the Chicago bar also is well recommended, basically next door to Adelita if anyone elase is venturing down that way.
