The Mighty Toronto Blue Jays set records for low attendance this year. Admittedly they were well out of the race, but not the point.

Is this team going to survive in Toronto?...literally?

Maybe the question should be...do we care if the Jays stay or move? I was a big Jays fan when they were competitive in the 90s. I find baseball boring now and not sure if it's cuz they're losing or I find the sport boring in general. I think it's a little bit of both.

That's just it. This is not a sports town. Toronto is not like Philadelphia, Denver nor the like where everything gets supported so long as it is entertaining.

For sports, this is a Leaf town, and solely a Leaf town...even junior hockey has failed here.

Ahh the usual whining of the Jays fan, booo hooo the Red Sox and Yankees have more money, wawa they need to expand the playoffs the Jays would make it, sniff sniff we need a salary cap!!!!

someone needs to explain to me how Rogers doesnt have as much money as John Henry or the Steinbrenner family??? Jays fans accept it your team as long as it used as a front to push digital boxes and cell phones will never be a winner. When you hire a joke of a GM and he is kept on for 8 years without even a playoff spot, disaster in the free agent market and in drafting have turned this club into the same league as the Pirates and Royals.

All the salary caps in the world will not save you from horrible ownership and mismanagement, just ask Lions, Browns and Raiders fans.

Maybe because the Yankees have the fan support?

Rogers 'has the money', but would you invest $100 million+ if you were likely not to get any return?

That's the thing right there...Rogers wants to make money. The Yankees and Red Socks ownership is there to win. The teams are their respective toys.

the Red Sox and Yanks solely exist for baseball, the Jays well text your seat number to 1234 on your Rogers phone, see how many channels we have in HD? etc etc

I think we're a long ways away from needing to worry about that.

I doubt we'll ever see the days of 50k+ per game again, but a competitive team should get 30k-35k per night which is very respectable. They've got good local TV contracts, strong local ownership, the Jays are in no dnager of moving.
Your where the Expos were in about 1990. They were on of the leagues most successful franchises just seven years earlier. You can move up or go way down with awful ownership.

I just chose a random big US city that doesn't have a team. Insert Sacramento or Portland, Oregon, or whatever.

Again, where would they play ?

Cities (and ownership groups) aren't exactly lining up to purchase M.L.B. teams to place them in 2nd and 3rd tier U.S. cities that have not have stadiums already built. The economic/political climate in the U.S. is such right now that public money would be very difficult to come by.

The Yanks and Red Sox want to make money too. Do you think that if they had the revenue that the Jays have that they would spend like that? Say what you want about how much the Steinbrenner's have, but the Yankees spend 'Yankee Money' and there is a ton of it.
