I think this puts HW firms in a pickle, the OS and ecosystem are what the customers are tied to so why would Samsung take a margin hit on the first release to build marketshare only to attract a bunch of users for Google that can jump ship to the next best thing.

Google wants to be M$, they win regardless of which HW wins and they grab a lions share of the margin.... Apple disrupted this model by offering a differentiated offering - sexy HW, fantastic UI, massive ecosystem - not just generic HW.

Hah the first legit alternative and its pricey as hell despite them not having to do the R&D on developing their own OS (from Google) or design. Hope its not true Samsung, that's pathetic.

Although I'm not completely sold on android, I'll answer this.
Unlike iPhones/iPads, android is not one size fits all. Samsung having their heads up their asses says nothing about other android products.
