The best-selling smartphone in the world is no longer an iPhone. New data released on Thursday by market research firm Strategy Analytics finds that Samsung’s (005930) Galaxy S III was the world’s top-selling smartphone model in the third quarter this year, displacing Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone for the first time in years. Samsung announced earlier this week that cumulative Galaxy S III channel sales reached the 30 million unit milestone and according to Strategy Analytics, 18 million of those were shipped in Q3 2012. During the same period, Apple shipped an estimated 16.2 million iPhone 4S handsets, slipping into the No.2 spot for the quarter.
Apple will regain the crown for the 4th quarter, but this is definitely a sign of the times and not the last time a single phone from Samsung will be the best selling phone in the world.

It wasn't that long ago when iSheeples claimed that Android only sell more because there are more manufacturers(such a silly argument. when has choice been a bad thing?), those same people said a single Android phone will NEVER sell more than an iPhone....well guess what!

Going from RIM to Galaxy S2, I never dreamed a phone could be so fun, and do so much. Before Christmas I'll have parted with my other BB in favor of the SIII adding thus adding to this list.

Still, whenever I walk past an apple store, or into a starbucks, its clear that Iphone isn't just big, its massive loyaly wise.
Not as true as it used to be...Android sales attest to that as well as this study...

iPhone Loyalty Wanes After Apple’s Latest Smartphone Release

A study conducted by Strategy Analytics found Apple users are no longer as interested in sticking with the brand’s products in the future.

The survey found 88% of current iPhone owners in the U.S. were likely to buy another Apple smartphone. But just last year the study reported 93% of customers willing to purchase a subsequent Apple product.

The decline in Apple loyalty can also be seen globally. The study found 75% of Western European users were likely to purchase another Apple handset, down from 88% in 2011

That's certainly true, but I've recently come across a few people that have switched from iphone to android (the S3 specifically). Was pretty surprised actually.

I've seen ads for free and $50 Galaxy S IIIs, if you've been wanting one the bargains abound.

Ha ha ha just don't be like me when I first got my S III took a video of a fireworks show that ran 3 gigs and tried to upload it on my data plan which is 1 gig a month. Cost me 25 bucks on my bill. Wifi hotspots are your friends. I watch that data usage number and file size now.

I'm surprised Apple hasn't obtained a patent on being "sales leader" for smartphones, and suing Samsung for infringement based on Q3 results.

Hrmmm...the use of the word "steals" in the title is a bit apropo when it comes to Samsung.
I don't disagree that samsung probably copied or "stole" ideas from apple, but apple practically built their entire business on that.

When your at the top. Some People look for your fall. iPhone will always be top smart phone in years to come. Apps for iPhone is the key to apples success. Awesome apps. For business and pleasure. Samsung is a great phone. But iPhone does everything right. The right size and weight. Actually I wish it was I little heavier? I put a heavier case. Apple in general have awesome products. All in house. From design to software. No other manufacture can say this. That is it self is why Apple is the most desirable company in the world.

The iphone is a great product but there's no way the size is right. I've used the 5 and it's just too damn small.
Check out vids on you tube. iPhone beats the Samsung or matches in every area. Except size of screen. Samsung is a huge phone. It big to be in my blue jean pockets. I'm not fat. Good shape. I noticed people having problems reading text so the larger size helps.Samsung is awesome for game playing and movie watching. I don't need that. The iPhone is great overall. Before cell phones were small. Motorola razor? Now big is in? iPhone does everything. Why don't Samsung users talk about their apps? Do they compare to iTunes apps. Like a thousand or way more.

That's a personal opinion. I've used an iphone and an s3. The only thing where I find the iphone is better is the app store. The play store needs better organization. Other than that I find the s3 superior in every way. But again, this is a personal opinion.
As for size, I have a note 2 and frankly, I might even be willing to go bigger. I'm not going to go searching for it but I've seen a study that said people wanted bigger screens.
BTW, the note 2 fits very comfortably in jean pockets.
