Don't tell your girlfriend, wife, mistress and/or favorite SP. Saks 5th Avenue is now in Toronto.

I give them 2 years 3 max before they fold their tent and close their door.

Both locations will feature a “first-of-its-kind Saks Food Hall by Pusateri’s” and coincide with Saks Fifth Avenue launching a shopping service, Saks at Your Service, as well as a private service, The Fifth Avenue Club, in Canada.

I agree, bad timing on Saks part, particularly with the loonie so low. Teaming up with Pusateris will lead to a divorce also. Those ladies who do New York shopping sprees will not visit the Eaton's Centre

Since it is all over the news. Young and Queen, and next week Sherway Gardens. I expect like Holt Renfrew, they already are aware, of the newest addition to the high end market.
As for your favorite SP, you just told them. lol

The Bay at Yorkdale has a Personal Shopper, who will pick out outfits, for the woman, who needs help. The prices there, are just as high, with the multiple designer labels found, on the second floor.
No need for them to go downtown, as downtown went to both Sherway Gardens, and Yorkdale.

Don't forget Nordstrom's in the former Sears/Eatons location opening up in the fall.

Will these retailers succeed? It will be a challenge, but Toronto is a wealthy and wanabee city. Old money with deep pockets and young millenials who spend any disposable income on clothes.

The people who shop at Sak's are not concerned with the value of the loonie. These are not Walmart or Tower's - it is an exclusive store for the elite so I would guess they will do well. Some snooty people will shop just so they can carry out the trash in Sak's bags.

Tranquility Base, La Luna
Saks is owned by The Bay.
After 300 years, the stodgy Hudson's Bay Company is now run by a woman bent on empire building.

Huge target for Organized Retail Crime ($3.6 Billion/year underground economy), professional shoplifters who will steal and sell to flea markets, craigslists and kijiji.

With all the forged credit cards and identity theft going on, shoplifting is soon becoming obsolete.

Shoplifting will never become obsolete. 7 billion people are always tempted to steal. That's like the conservative government thinking they can get rid of the demand for paid sex.

I made a few dollars today on Norstroms their earnings flopped missed projections blames on the warm weather and other excuses but the wallets are tightening folks

Norstroms and Saks cater to the 1%. The rest of us shop at Wal-Mart. I would also imagine that the vast majority of Torontonians would rather spend $1million on a house than $100,000 on a watch.

With the loonie being low I don't think these stores will do great for a few years. Money is becoming tight, loonie is weak, shopping rates dropped 2.2% to this date, that's almost 3million I believe. These stores don't offer discounts I don't think think, not huge ones at least. The people who will go there have an exceed cash flow to that doesn't change their lifestyle or the group who exceed their card cards
