The Leafs would be smart to free up some $$$ for one of these guys. Does Nolan's salary still count against the Leafs cap even though he isn't playing??

Speaking of Nolan, I'm assuming he's still under contract with the team?
When and if he recovers, and if they kiss and make up, would the Leafs be able to just suit him up and put him back in?

I highly doubt Nolan will be back...if the arbitrator rules the Leafs are responsibly for his salary or whatever, then they are screwed because they'd be over the cap.

No, they shouldnt go after either of them...they should get LUONGO

Didn't the Leafs buy out Nolan?

And that the only thing that's up for aribitration is the amount the Leafs have to pay Nolan for the buyout?

They only declined the option to save space under the cap. I don't think they, Sakic especially, are going anywhere.

Sorry LeafsNation

Statement #1. Wrong. Regardless of the ruling, Nolan's pay will not count against the Leafs' cap (unless he actually plays for them, I assume). The league has ruled on that already.

Statement #2. 100% agree. I was gonna say the same thing. Luongo appears to want out of Fla. (only signed a 1 year deal) and unless Tellqvist suddenly turns into the second coming of Jacques Plante, Toronto needs to replace Belfour very soon.

if Florida is out of the playoff picture, they could realistically trade him knowing that he will probably walk in the off-season...however, I think Florida will hang around for that 8th spot, which makes a trade unlikely then, you would think...

wouldn't it be something if trades were allowed in the post season...

For Luongo, I'd be patient and wait until next year if need be, via free agency. However if Florida feels he's gonna bolt they'd probably want to trade him to get something in return. That makes him more expensive but probably still worth it. He can be the cornerstone of a franchise for the next 10 years.

How funny are you "lappie" If you looked into what was done you would know that the Av's did not pick up the options because it would have cost them about $600,000.00 against this years salary cap. The can now resign them to a longer term deal with out the cap hit.

Assuming they do, right now, they are NOT under contract for the following year.
