I hate to admit it but there is an older country tune(i'm not a fan of country mind you)...
Don't Cry Joanie.
Poor young girl is in love with the guy next door but she's too young for him.
So he rejects her only to wake up one day down the road, years later to realize that she is the one for him.
So, he comes back only to find out she's married his best friend.

Maybe if I had played it backwards, the dog would have come back to life, the fencing will be done and the guy gets the girl.

Songs - there's lots - and the ones that came to mind are already listed (Hurt, Mother, etc)

"The" breakup/sad album for me has always been the Wall...

I'm a huge Eva Cassidy fan. I only got into her music after she died, very talented woman, very sad. Her duets with Chuck Brown were stunning, as was most of her work. "Live at Blues Alley" was a tremendous piece of work, IMHO.

These Are The Days Of Our Lives - Queen
Old City Bar - Trans Siberian Orchestra. I suppose this one isnt sad as such, but the message it gives me of the true meaning of Christmas gets hold deep and twists....
