It always looks like the Americans should win but the matches are usually very close.

There was a time when the Americans did win most of the time but now the Europeans have won 6 of the last 9 cups.

I think the format helps the Europeans compete because it does not allow the Americans to take advantage of their depth.
Plus anything can happen in the alternate shot format.

If they just played 12 singles matches every day, I think the Americans would be much more likely to win but with the best ball, alternate shots, and the fact that 8 players do not play in each of the first four rounds, anything is possible.

Looks like Europe came to play on day1. Phil and Tiger didn't quite work out and it could possibly be 3 1/2- 1/2 or even 4-0 after the four balls.

3 1/2 - 1/2 it is. Flew home at lunch to watch some. This afternoon should be interesting. Americans barely avoided the first sweep in 15 years. Id love to know who people are voting for out there. For some reason i found myself routing for the Europeans

Phil and Tiger team didn't work. In four-ball play, wouldn't it make sense have a pair consisting of a par golfer (mostly pars, few birdies/bogeys) with an aggressive player (lots of birdies, with the expected bogeys).

btw, is there an international US vs World event? I love to see Mike Weir and Vijay Singh in that venue.

That would be the Presidents Cup. At some point I hope this gets bigger than the Ryder Cup due to all the international players.

Missing from the Ryder Cup

#1 Vijay Singh
#3 Ernie Els
#7 Mike Weir

To many traditionalist thinking the Ryder Cup is bigger. Didn't help either when Jack and Gary called it a draw back in South Africa, only hurt the event...

Sutton blew this one, Tiger and Phil don't like each other and Phil had to play Tigers Nike ball, yes this makes a huge difference. He went at it to much as a dictator, at least feel out the players to see what they think. This may get real bad for the Americans real quick. They can not continue to rely on the single matches on Sunday...

6 1/2 to 1 1/2 after day 1. Europe only needs 7 1/2 points out of a possible 20 remaining to retain the Cup.

Day 1 was a disaster for Team USA.

Phil & Tiger never liked each other B4 the matches, & with Phil spraying the ball all over the place & forcing Tiger to make impossible recoveries, only made matters worse.

It is beginning to look like another Team USA in the Olympics basket ball game.

Yeah, it's looking good for the Euros. I'm a Brit, so I have a vested interest in the outcome. But, remember, two days of golf to go. Phil M. proved that the word TEAM does include an "I". What's he thinking changing equipment close to a major event.

David Morland IV?

That is hilarious.
He can't even make the top 125 on the money list.
He's not even in the top 200 in the World ranking.
Back to Q School and/or the Nationwide for him.

More likely Stephen Ames and KJ Choi.

It's nice to know somebody understands my humour.

Maybe he'll get in because his wife was 2nd in the Mrs. America pageant.

Sutton is putting Phil back out for the afternoon matches.

Phil jackass, now Hal as well.

Easy solution, Phil you have your old clubs in the car, then go get them, if not sit down jackass....
