There was a time when the Americans did win most of the time but now the Europeans have won 6 of the last 9 cups.
I think the format helps the Europeans compete because it does not allow the Americans to take advantage of their depth.
Plus anything can happen in the alternate shot format.
If they just played 12 singles matches every day, I think the Americans would be much more likely to win but with the best ball, alternate shots, and the fact that 8 players do not play in each of the first four rounds, anything is possible.
