I don't think they know what to do.
This wasn't supposed to be a war. This was supposed to be a quick kidnapping and overthrow of the Kyiv government and then a parade through Ukraine w cheering crowds flying the Russian flag and throwing flowers. Most of those gas-starved vehicles were probably just supposed to stay on the border while a few units paraded through Ukraine.
I don't think the Ukrainians want to escalate by bombing or shelling the stalled column. The hope is that Russian public opinion will swing as more accurate information becomes available and the basic will to keep fighting will simply evaporate.
I don't know about that, I'd think that the Ukrainians would love to hit that convoy if they could.
It looks like the Ukrainian defences are slowing down now, even their daily propaganda tally didn't show much increase from the day before.
