Just heard on CFNY 102.1, that Bill Waters has said the Leafs have named Ron Wilson our new Leafs coach. And a possibility that Brian Burke will be our GM. Thoughts? I like the idea of Wilson being our coach.

I think they should hire the GM first and then let the GM select the coach.

Doesn't Burke have a year left with Anaheim?
Is he going to be released from his contract with the Ducks?

Bill Watters has been saying Burke is coming to town for ages now. It looked like he would, then the Samuellis' in Anaheim didnt release him.

Ron Wilson is a Burke favorite, so that part would make sense. It would be nice to have both positions filled by draft day.

Don't believe anything Bill Watters says. He is a chump and completely out of the MLSE loop.

I think Burke is a done deal either this year or next, and they wouldn't hire Wilson for a long term deal unless they discussed this with him first(under the table of course) :)

Yeah.. almost positive that if Wilson is hired, then there must have been some tampering there to get Burke on board for the following season.

And think about it, the Leafs asked for permission to talk to Burke, but they can't. So what can the Leafs do? Well, they can hire a coach in Wilson, who Burke as GM and President would defiinitely have hired himself, seeing as they have a genuine friendship, and you just know that Wilson will be talking to Burke "privately" about coming to Toronto anyway.

It's a win-win. I was ecstatic when I first heard that Wilson got fired by the Sharks. This is even better news IMO. Best guy on the market right now IMO.

Ron Wilson as Leafs coach....why?

There are better candidates for the GM job than Brian Burke. If Richard Peddie wasn't a blind, power hungry, incompetent waste of skin, he would have had other options. Peddie doesn't want to hire a President of hockey operations because he STILL wants control in decision making. It doesn't matter who the coach is, the Leafs are going to bottom out next season.

Then we can have Brian Burke and his goon hockey - and he can bring Todd Bertuzzi with him. Why not, we've already got Mark Bell.

Well their better be a GM in mind cause what the fuck would they be hiring a coach before they hire a GM ...

It better be a package deal ..
This probably means that Fletcher is staying in that position for this year. Until "somebody's" contract expires.

Why do i get the feeling no matter who the Leafs hired it wouldn't be good enough for some people on this board. You say Why Ron Wilson?

Maybe because he has coached over 1,000 games in the NHL with a record well over 500. Maybe because he took a Washington Capitals team with very little talent to the Stanley Cup finals.

Well that's okay you can have your opinion but i will take Cliff Fletchers over yours any day

If Wilson is hired, then the Leafs are trying to entice Burke. He is a good coach but I just think that there are a few better choices out there. He will probably "lose the room" eventually just like he always does. The players will just stop listening to him because he is a headcase.

In my opinion, Joel Quenneville is a better coach and the Leafs should hire him.

I don't think that anyone will be happy with the coach the Leafs hire no matter how successful they have been in the past.

If Scotty Bowman was available in his prime, he would be criticized by some I'm sure.

I think John Anderson should be given a shot in the NHL. I'm not sure he would be the one for Leafs but there are coaches out there that could coach in the NHL.

He earned plenty of respect from Thornton. Just kidding. Click the lnk.

They'll need to build a bigger area behind the players' bench to accommodate Hunter's nose. Hope he's a better coach than he was a player. Strictly a goon.

Hunter was a pretty good goon. I liked him as a player, he worked hard even though he had little talent.. GAWD, what can a guy that was the master of the hook, hold, grab, slash, and trip offer to the current NHL and it's strict enforcement of the rules???

I don't like the way that this is shaping up.. I am trying to keep an open mind, but Wilson hiring Hunter as a coach makes me shake my head.

I think he has done a good job the last few years in San Jose...

It's not like he has never coached.
