Stick a fork in Mitt, he's done! Picking a radical conservative wingnut like Ryan instead of a GOPer with wilder appeal will seal his fate....:eyebrows:

Reports: Romney picks Paul Ryan as VP running mate

By Holly Bailey, Yahoo! News | The Ticket – 3 hrs ago

NORFOLK, Va.--Mitt Romney will name his vice presidential running mate on Saturday.

According to a statement the campaign released late Friday, the presumptive Republican nominee will announce his running mate at an 8:45am rally here on the USS Wisconsin--the first stop of his four-day bus tour of key battleground states. The campaign offered no further details, and aides traveling with Ronney declined to comment.

But Republican sources told NBC News, the Huffington Post, the Associated Press and CNN that Romney is expected to name Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin--reports the campaign refused to confirm. In addition, ABC News's Jon Karl reported that former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Ohio Sen. Rob Portman and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio--all of whom were said to be on Romney's short list--have all been told they are not the pick.

Mitt was actually doing better then Obama with the senior citizen crowd.with Paul Ryan's views on Medicare and Medicaid, this may actually bring some of them back in play.A better choice would have been Marco Rubio.I personally think that's who the Democrats wanted to deal with least.I think is REALLY going to energize unions though.First the Scott Walker saga, now the VP pick from Wisconsin.

I would have preferred Rubio but Ryan is a good choice. He doesn't take any shit and he will literally wipe the floor with Biden's ass during the debates. I'm glad he didn't choose Pawlenty or Portman.

I heard part of his speech and it was a piece of art, not so much in what he said, but much what he didn't say.

He listed the failures that occurred under Obama, but not blaming it on Obama and then saying, 'regardless of the reasons' these are the failures. Nicely done. He will be a factor but his albatross is the GOP candidate for POTUS.

paul ryan is one of the best in washington however that isnt saying much considering who's in washington. But he understands americas in a bad financial state and needs fiscal reforms, unfortunately even the ryan plan isnt good enough. obama has increased government by so much that it won't be hard for the romney administration to underperform obama, the problem is government is already too large just inhibiting its growth isnt good enough we need to chop whats already there. we'll see whats said in the next few months but I wouldnt expect the radical change america needs

Considering the Republicans, before the midterms wanted little to do with Ryan's plans, as they were too radical. It was only after midterms and the arrival of the 87(?) rookies Tea Baggers that it has had any major support. This may persuade many of the undecided/independent voters to lean to the Democrats.

You are still on this 'government is big' kick when the facts actually show differently. Your idiot stubbornness should embarrass you, but hey. It sure gives many of us a good laugh.

the plan isnt too radical, the reason why it was shunned is bc its politically unpopular, messing with entitlements is considered political suicide so it takes a real politician with integrity to not only introduce that plan but to support it. back to my whole point about the douchebags in congress that only care about getting re-elected and not the country's future. entitlement reforms have to be done, its simply unaffordable we are talking over 100 trillion dollars taxing the rich isnt gonna save medicare and social security

... and of course that politician last name is Paul. The idea is still unpopular, it's just supported by a few more rookies on the Hill and possibly in the electorate, but wait a minute ....

Paul Ryan's a numbers guy — and he's got some bad ones.
Last spring when Ryan unveiled his budget proposal, which proposed changing Medicare to a private program with government subsidies, pollsters jumped to see what Americans thought.

A flurry of polls showed a majority or at least a plurality of voters didn't like Ryan's idea. Among the elderly, it was wildly unpopular.
In June 2011 a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey found that 58 percent of American adults opposed the Medicare idea, while just 35 percent said they supported. Among the elderly, the disapproval rate soared to 74 percent. Even among conservative voters, 54 percent disapproved.
In the same month, a Pew Research Center poll found that 41 percent of Americans opposed turning Medicare into a voucher system, akin to Ryan’s plan, although 23 percent had no opinion. That poll also found that a majority of older Americans, 51 percent, opposed the idea. When Pew drilled down, it found that voters preferred Democrats handling of Medicare over Republicans by 10 points — 44 to 34 percent.
Earlier in 2011, a New York Times/CBS poll found that 61 percent of Americans believed Medicare to be worth its cost, with just 29 percent disagreeing. Americans were divided over whether they’d be willing to cut Medicare, but seniors were dead-set against the idea, with 56 percent opposing reductions to the program.
One pocket of good news came out of a Gallup poll in April showed that Americans were only evenly divided on whether they preferred Ryan’s deficit-reduction plan or President Barack Obama’s. Still, two-thirds worried that Ryan’s plan would cut Medicare too much.

I don't see your point, obviously entitlement reform is unpopular thats what I said. americans are clueless on the fiscal crisis at their doorstep, too busy watching american idol instead of the national debt clock. They are going to have a rude awakening. the same thing is happening here in canada healthcare is unsustainable and we are already talking about raising the retirement age for CPP

So again, because they disagree with you and your hero, they're clueless. Their not clueless that there is a crisis just don't agree with the solution the GOP offer.

I'm not nuts about Ryan. However, we'll never know what turned up in the internal vetting process or who just flat said "no". Condi is on record as refusing even the thought of running, and for all we know Rubio (my preferred pick) lied about his education or something.

The actual list to pick from may have been much smaller than reported. Ryan beats the crap out of Bachman, Pawlenty, and some of the lesser known.

taxing the rich is a straw man argument, it wont even put a dent into the current deficit let alone the over 100 trillion in entitlements its simple math. spending has gotten out of control to the point that no amount of tax revenue will solve the problem. the ponzi scheme is up and its time to face reality. obama knows this but to throw in the towel on entitlements will crush the democrats, entitlements are their cherished possessions and they will wait until they are absolutely forced to jump the sinking ship. they want to keep the ponzi scheme going for as long as they can, until every last form of wealth is sucked out of the american economy. instead of acknowledging the future and forgoing any more bandaid solutions

You make it sound like 'taxing the rich' is all he's planning. It's simply a starting point.

no amount of tax revenue will solve the problem.
Specifically, $3209.33 in additional tax revenue per American would solve the problem, or roughly 6.7% of GDP, which is probably too high, but isn't "no amount of tax revenue".

$3209.33 is $1 trillion divided by the American population. Why not just admit you were exaggerating?

Lots of americans "see the coming disaster". But in America you get to vote even if you are uninformed, you get to vote even if you do not contribute to society, you get to vote even if you do not pay taxes.

Benjamin Franklin said it best: "When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic"
