Went to disconnect my rogers service (internet+tv)and was told they need 30 days cancellation notice. So I call to cancel today but am still going to be billed for 30 more days although I'm leaving the country.

Can they do this?

No. It is illegal and you need to have them stop the billing or threaten legal action. I know how hard it is to cancel with these people.

It is not just Rogers but Bell does the same thing.

If they told you that you need 30 days cancelation notice, why didn't you do it 30 days ago?

Get your facts rights, it is not illegal. It is the same with leasing anything, job termination, etc. Most places require notice to terminate services of many types.

I agree with Rylan. It's not illegal.

Check the agreement you signed when you first got Rogers service. It will tell you on there what notice you are required to give to disconnect.

Rogers usually needs no notice to move your account from one place to another. The only wait time is the scheduling but in their system it is pretty much instant b/c you are assigned a tag number.

The same applies when you cancel the service. Rogers usually bills in advance , not for past service.

The best dpt to speak about this is Roger's Billing Dpt. Just tell then you want to end service as you will be out of the country "for good" and you want to make a credit card payment before you leave.

I resorted to this tactic when I switched to another service provider.

Not to side with Robbers or anything, but one should know 30 days in advance that they're leaving the country....

But Look Communications tried to pull this with me, they eventually stopped sending me the bills. If it appears on my credit report? BFD. It won't stop someone from lending me $100,000.00 to have an unpaid debt of $86.00.....

yup, my ass is bleeding I have been bent over so many times from them.
They were spit-roasting me, cancelled 4 cells, internet and TV. Best money I ever spent to get out from under them.
