True story. When I moved into a friend's house and ordered Internet, and then tried to cancel after I found out they lied to us, they refused to cancel the service. They gave us the runaround, and it took numerous calls, lots of time waiting (ridiculously long), and lots of rude attitude. I'm with Bel now, and am sure they are not much better but at least the service is OK.

Didn't see this thread until I posted one of my own:

I can't make or receive phone calls on my rogers voip so their help line says

contact them at their 1 888 number.....so, you can't make or receive calls and their advice is to PHONE them....DOH

Just an update: I took my voip modem to the rogers store up the street from my place because the website said it was open until 11.

I get there and they say that part of the store is closed and closed at 6. I said what time are they open tomorrow because the website says 11. They said they aren't open tomorrow.

None the less they don't exchange voip modems at store level. They have to send out a service tech. They then proceeded to tell me to call the 1 888 number and arrange a service call.....I was out the door and in my truck when I realized. FUCK went back in and said: You realize that I'm here because my voip home phone doesn't work? yes, SO how the hell can I CALL????

Man, some people......

I thought I was alone in the universe of anger towards Rogers. Although I don't think I have reason to wish death on anyone. I just got severely peeved when our yearly coverage of Leafs TV was farmed out to some American company that is now charging any commercial establishments a minimum of $1500 per regular season of which they only cover about 20%, mostly the Saturday night games which was most popular in bars. This doesn't include any playoff time, not that the Leafs will see playoffs before the end of the decade.

The thing that burns me the most is that EVERY other NHL team has network coverage that is available via basic cable services for each and every game or at least did last season. I highly doubt any bastard would be stupid enough to add a fee to watch a game that many American cities are struggling to provide at no cost due to lack of interest.

I'm currently in Edmonton and recently watched a Leafs game for free and watched the Leafs vs. Calgary for free as well the night prior.
But I guess, we as Torontonians have only ourselves to blame as were the only assholes on the planet that will pack an arena and pay through the nose even if our entire team were to forfeit the game on the day before.

So with all that ranted out, thanks for the thread and yes...... FUCK ROGERS!

No kidding! I've been so pissed off at Bell I recently moved all my business to Rogers! So far no problems. Guess it depends on who ticks you off first.

We need more Telco's and Media companies here in Canada. With just these two Bell and Rogers they have no reason to give us good service. Probably in it together, doesn't matter who you switch to, still get screwed!

and these companies wonder why many use grey market receivers for their tv programming?

Now if someone could hack the cellphone network we'd be laughing!! The reason they don't in the US is because it's not worth the hassle service is so damned cheap there....

Years ago the CRTC forced Bell to open their wires to signals from the new start-up telcos, so consumers could choose their telephone service provider. Howcum Rogers still has a monopoly on what I can receive over their wires? Talk it up. E-mail the CRTC. Write your MP. Heck, it took city councils to let them put up poles and wires; call your Councillor.

Many moons ago, some shlub in some office in Ottawa decides that we need 'protection' from radio signals emanating from the US lest we get the wrong idea about which boring government town we ought to be sending our tax checks to. Fast forward 50-odd years later, and the bureaucratic monstrosity that was put in place to 'protect us' has now morphed into the co-opted division of cellphone companies that are entirely unrelated to the original radio broadcasters. There is no reason whatsoever why any foreign company should be restricted from offering its products here. System access fee my ass.

So since Bell Expressvu's encryption has been updated and you can't hack satellite anymore... the next best thing I reccomend for sticking it to the man is get your self a buddy or two... and share an account...
