I have a Motorola Cell phone about 2 years old and works about 15-20% of the time.
I don't want to spend $150-$200 to replace it and because my family is all on cells (we have no home phone) and my wife just upgraded her cell a few months ago, all the Rogers stores are pretty much saying I am screwed for another year before I can get a free update.

Any suggestions??

We are on a 3 year contract so I cannot just switch to another carrier.

Anywhere there's a Strip Joint
Just find a store(Cash Converters etc) or Flea Market that sells used one's, pop in your sim card and away you go. Is your wife's old phone still good, if it takes a sim card why don't you use that?

I met a guy in a bar who offered to sell me a used cellphone with a Fido sim card. I asked where he got the phone and he said: "Ask me no questions." Is it possible that the phone is stolen?

Rogers has a lost, stolen, broken policy. When my Roger’s phone bit the dust, they sold me a replacement for $100. It was a basic phone but it worked.

Also, there is a chance it could be repaired. I know there’s a GSM phone shop on Dundas/Hurontario that can fix cell phones. Go to one of those places and see if it can be fixed.

My neice got a new phone from rogers by telling them that she wanted a new one or she was going take her business else where. You need to sound serious is what she told me, be firm. She got to keep her old phone number and got a new blackberry and a new 3 year contract from that date is what she told me.

You can switch your number to another used phone, the toll free number customer service will help you do just that if you can get one at the right price. Pawn shop, thrift shops, yard sale, online (ebay).

Rogers will let you do alot from the toll free number I have switch my cell phone number to 3 of 4 different phones now, I just watch and buy them cheap. At one point in time a had 3 different phone numbers on 3 different cell phone (pay-as-you-go though) 3 different cities, no long distance for
those people calling me in windsor, Ottawa, Toronto for example.

Good luck

Thanks everyone.
Problem solved
Tried the 'I'll take my business elsewhere' bit, did not get a free phone but an acceptable discount.

If you are with Rogers 2 years already on your 3 year contract, they can give you a phone if you agree to renew your contract for 3 years. Depends on which phone not all of them will be free but they can give you at least $150 towards the phone you want.
