Only in this city are the homeless treated like kings. And they sure as fuck don't appreciate it.

And don't give me this nonsense about them being outcast by society and suffering from mental illness and abuse. For the vast majority of them, their addictions and poverty were of their own doing.
The nanny state capital of Canada is Toronto which has the greatest amount of social services available to be used by those in need and the greatest potential for exploitation of these services. Many people use these services as a temporary measure until they can do better while others remain on them either because of permanent mental or physical disability in the case of ODSP or laziness in the case of Ontario Works. So many able bodied people are not working because they are supported( pre-(pre-pandemic ) by the government and with the pandemic this will increase. There is no encouragement for personal responsibility by the government So that tents will become increasingly more of a familiar site on Toronto sidewalks, maybe with social service room service, free needles, safe government approved opioids, free WiFi etc underwritten by the taxpayer. Drug addicts are made to feel like they have a sense of entitlement Because the addiction is a “ disease“ although the addiction cannot be used to mitigate criminal convictions .Immigration is necessary to fill the jobs that Canadian Citizens or those with PR do not wish to take. It looks like the homeless problem south of Bloor is now moving north to Roehampton and beyond.

The gangbangers and thugs with guns in the city are also for the most part on social services as well.

When Steven Harper was running it, The Roehampton was party central. Many fond memories.
It was a good place tp have a discreet session. Out of the way and not too expensive. BTW: It's not Justin that's doing this but the idiots on Toronto City Council. They get re-elected over and over. Great experts in how to wreck a neighbourhood.

I seen a story about this on the news tonight. Got to agree with the neighbourhood not wanting the homeless there.

It really wasn't like that, this was during my chauffeur days. Steven Harper (not his real name) and I were friends from Springhurst. I would bring in business, travelers who wanted an affordable place near the city. In return, I had a place to hang my hat once the day was done. I was still living just above the poverty line back then so no discreet sessions. Steven Harper tried to get me to sign up to Facebook, he's now a traveling country music act.

Actually, the Mike Harris government made cuts to public housing funding, the blame for homelessness should be on his government - a Conservative one. Now Doug Ford is making it easier to evict people, Doug Ford is Conservative btw, so the homeless population will increase.

Conservative government has been a fucking plague on this country, I think we can all agree.
Before Doug who was in power? The fiberals under McSquinty and Kathleen the team changer. Like they did anything to help the issue. The PC inherited a shit show.

They did a social experiment in Leaside a few years ago. Put up a sign that said "homeless shelter coming to your neighborhood soon". The reaction from the locals was predictable.

The PC inherited the shit show of Mike Harris, you are right about that.
So what you are saying is that the former Liberal governments, who were in charge of the show for well over a decade, failed to address the issue and let it get worse?

Perhaps the residents should just send their property tax notices back to the city and have the city pay the residences property taxes since it appears that is the case for those living in the Roehampton Hotel. The manager in charge of the shelters said they do not need residents approval to put up a shelter so then I guess they don't need residents taxes either. In reality if the shelter was up an no needles no deification no stabbings no guns no increase in crime was happening many local residents probably wouldn't even notice it. The issue is the it is not a two way street as residents are being asked to respect the needs of those in the shelter but no onus is put on the residents of the shelter to respect the needs of the residents. The press try to make it look like residents are typical NIMBY but ironically the press would call the police on anyone defecating, stabbing, doing drugs and crime in the medias buildings as most have their own security staff so the press are just hypocrites who profit from a narrative that they themselves do not follow,
