OK so these next two songs aren't really rock, but they both struck a chord with me back in the day...
I was fortunate to see Tim perform live in 1968 in a little club in Yorkville, during my brief visit to Toronto that year. Sadly heroine was a problem for him, and led to an untimely overdose death at age 39, in 1980.
No shortage of an ego though. He was often quoted as saying that Ray Charles said to him "I am the first light of the blues, and Tim, you are the second!"

Wow, that is Jesse Winchester, I believe I have every record he ever made. He died of prostate cancer in his 50s. Was born in the southern US but refused to be drafted because of the Vietnam war and moved to Montreal and wrote a great song called Beautiful Montreal. Had a fantastic voice and wrote many songs. My favourite, Club Manhattan.
