The key part of that article is that the Panthers are budgeting 30 Million as their budget. To pay Pronger 7.8 million would take up approx. 25% of their projected budget.......add in the 5 million they've committed to the two ex-Leafs, that is another 20%, therefore they would have 45% of their payroll tied up in three players...........NEVER going to happen.
The Leafs are going to take a page out of the past, if they can ink Khabubillen. Think back to when they Potvin........coming off good years, they then signed Cujo. Later that year they traded Potvin to a team that was in desperate need of a goalie.
Khabubillen is their goalie of choice for the coming year. Belfour will be used as trade bait. This is also why the Leafs tendered qualifying offers to all their players. The thinking is that at some point during the coming year, somebody that has designs on winning the Cup but doesn't have the goalie to do it, will come a calling to the Leafs for Eddie the Eagle.

Roberts and Nieuwendyk provide other things that don't necessarily show up on the stat sheet, but that's ok. I hope they have good luck too until they meet the Leafs in the playoffs. I just hope the Leafs sign people who are younger than them. If they turn around and sign people of the same age, I would rather have our two lost teammates.
