I had a great time at the Bahia Principe Sian Kaan (sp?). The food and service was terrific. I wandered over to the Tulum and Akumal properties also, which are much livelier. That's definitely where you want to be if you want to party. I wasn't big on going off reservation tho. The locals are pretty aggressive with hounding tourists and hawking crap. (Or maybe I just look like a sucker).

Agreed on the cave diving. It was super cool (literally cold. lol) diving underground. Our guide also took us snorkelling off the beach and we saw some beautiful sea turtles up close.

compared to Jamaica or DR its relatively tame... in Jamaica i had a dozen vendors pulling and pawing at me while walking thru their market...on the beach it was worse..didnt have more than 20mins of peace before some vendor comes up to me selling cigars, hair braiding or skidoos

Never been to DR but I agree with Jamaica. Still, I found the Jamaicans to be less aggressive. Most would back off if you said you weren't interested. Interestingly, I met quite a few expats in/around Cancun/PdC/Cozumel who vacationed in the area and simply decided to stay. Many of the stores in PdC seemed to be owned by expats.

I believe its in cancun though...if you have a healthy budget..excellence playa mujeres is a great choice..been there twice..a week each time....NO VENDORS and NO TIMESHARES...3 gates (2 armed) just just get in...no outsiders at all..no even day pssses for locals..because its so secluded..no wristbands..just a great time...no non guests on the beach...tons of beds and chairs..no 6am reserve..there is always some free..food that would be in high regard here in TO..

My gf and i were prob the only cpl there not on a honeymoon or annversary..one the best all inclusives i've been to..and i've been to plenty all over the caribbean

If you were thinking maya for a couple thing..i guarantee you this place is better than any resort in maya

And atcual premium liquor...im talking CC..johnnie walker..courvossier (spelled that wrong) jager etc..all included no extra for anything

Her place
The Royal. The best resort I've ever been to and I don't skimp. Right on the strip in Playa del Carmen, but you;d never know it. Great food, great service. Its 5 star and they mean it.

Adults only though.

I agree with db123, the royal was fantastic! Great food, great service, premium booze, and literally one block from the playa del Carmen strip, if you want to shop, or hit some bars

Been excellence Mujeres twice myself and agree with everything you said.

Top notch service and accommodations. Food was very good (though not excellent, but where in the Caribean is excellent??).

My only word of advice on Mujeres is - don't bother with the rooms with the rooftop patio / pool. It's a waste of cash. The first time I was there, I saw the rooms with the roof top patio / pool and thought it was your own private hot tub. It is not. It's just a fibreglass pool and it's on the cold side actually. Huge disappointment there. The upgraded room is no different than the base room save the rooftop patio and cold pool. The rooms are identical. Only one costs a hell of a lot more than the other.

I've been to Catalonia Yucatan in the Mayan twice. It was good. Good food, nice staff, entertainment was ok. If you go, you must see Tulum! Stunning!!

Jamaica, Grenada, & Turks&Caicos still win out in terms of best destinations I've traveled to.
