That sucks. He was also one of my favourites too. I met him briefly at the Holiday Inn in Oakville in the 80s. Back then, that was the hotel that the villains stayed at. Although he was in-character (fake grumpy deposition), he took the time to sign autographs and chat people up. Sycho Sid was there too, but he WAS grumpy. Almost no-one approached him. Huge man.

Ah Shit No! My favorite WWF villain from the 80s. Soo young too.

His wrestling skills were like that of Hogan, in fact the fights between Hogan and Piper were so bad. Even though I knew Piper would lose, had to laugh at the eye pokes.
Roddys real strength was Pipers Pit. I used to look so forward to him going hysterical on this.

Plus, as far as 80s movies go, They Live was awesome!
OMG..I remember that one..
FUCK that was bad!LOL
He was a pretty good villian on the series Highlander..
He was the 80's version of Stone Cold Steve Austin..except he couldnt leave the ring life
His wrestling skills were obviously borderline but his forte was definately on the Mic.!

I thought it was all real and couldn't believe he smashed a coconut over Superfly Snuka's head. He was a great entertainer. RIP

Loved when he whipped Mr T with a belt wayy back in Wrestlemania 1 (the best one)
Pipers Pit was the best. I always wanted a Hot Rod shirt but back then there wasn't much WWF brand clothing for sale.
He was one of the most entertaining stars of WWF

R.I.P rowdy one

and he was from Toronto...the Parkdale brawler.....did some funny stuff
Are you sure, I remember him talking about how he grew up in Cabbagetown.

Piper was a better wrestler than he's given credit for. Before moving to the WWF, he became an NWA star with a feud against the Von Erich family. Much like Stone Cold got his heat from Brett Hart. The matches between Piper and Kerry Von Erich gave birth to ECW. Unfortunately the 90's were not kind to Piper, he took too many drugs and turned into a freak. He cleaned himself up but due to his hardcore career, withdrawing from PED's caused him to age rapidly. He looked broken down during the final days of WCW.

A classic moment:

This sucks. I was actually searching him on YouTube the other day to watch some of his best moments. As a kid, always got goosebumps when hearing the bagpipes.

Met him in person and he was a super cool dude.

Missed ya already Hot Rod.

Actually 61 isn't that young for that generation in the early days of mixing street drugs, steroids, prescription drugs, alcohol with a lifestlye of head & organ trauma.

Sad but hardly unexpected.

Yup, as far as gullible goes, I led the train. I was pretty young when I saw that episode of Pipers Pit, and remember thinking "Roddy, you've gone too far this time"
None the wiser back then, the two probably laughed over a beer later that night.

But again, it was entertainment, and when you were young, you bought it hook, line and sinker.
Actually Piper hated Superfly. Years after that Piper's Pit he said that incident was his greatest regret. He said he had a brain fart and didn't realize how hard the coconut actually was and he did hurt Jimmy when smashing it on his head. Either way it was a great scene and he was my favourite 'heel' and truly revolutionized the skill of working the mic.

I wasn't a WWF or wrestling fanatic but I certainly remember him, but it's still sad though. May he RIP.
