Arnold helped him create the empire that he started.
Joe was a transplanted Canuck (Montreal), he and his brother did start a successful business and knew they could take things to another level when Joe noticed Arnold in Europe and brought him to America.
Joe staked Arnold giving him enough to live on while following around his every move and documenting it for his magazine in return for what he was doing for Arnie. With Arnold's successes mounting so did the successes of Joe's empire.
Joe was like a father to Arnold, helping him out and teaching him the business ropes and the fact that you needed to be global in order to survive and grow. Joe brought Arnold around to many business meetings and to his different homes and taught him about things other than business and even encouraged Arnold in everything he did and helped Arnold in starting his own business.
The Mr Olympia contest was Joe's baby. Body building had many different titles and Joe wanted to have the top title and spawned the Mr Olympia contest, drawing the top body builders to it.
