I just read that. I'm shocked. Completely shocked. It wasn't that it was completely unexpected, it's just the suddeness of it. It was just last month that he announced that he was stepping aside - temporarily. And now he's dead. You could tell at the press conference that he wasn't well, but you thought, well, maybe he has a shot at it. You never know. And bam, he's gone and at such a young age.
Love him or hate him, you can't say that he wasn't a dedicated man. He was a tireless champion of the "working man". There are not a lot of Jack Laytons in politics now or ever frankly. While he may have been too far left for me, I acknowlege that he was a counter balance to the right and I will be the first to say that he was a great Canadian.
