He passed away peacefully at 5:00am
I admired his strength in the election campaign, and now knowing how bad things were when he did his news conference last at the end of July, I have to admire his stength all the more. RIP.
It is very sad. My goodness that was quick though. I recall reading that he started to feel sick again in June. Whatever kind of cancer he had this time it appears to have been a really nasty one. We know he has a wife and son, my condolences to them.
Our hopes have diminished of decriminalizing prostitution and marijuana in Canada as Jack passes away. It's a very sad day for us TERBIES
I was shocked at how quickly he had deteriorated just a few months after the election and I didn`t expect him to recover but I am surprised he has passed so quickly.

RIP Jack, I hope those rumours about the massage parlour were true because it made him more human and indicated he enjoyed life to a degree. I am very shocked, I did not expect him to survive this, but I thought he at least had a year to go.
I just read that. I'm shocked. Completely shocked. It wasn't that it was completely unexpected, it's just the suddeness of it. It was just last month that he announced that he was stepping aside - temporarily. And now he's dead. You could tell at the press conference that he wasn't well, but you thought, well, maybe he has a shot at it. You never know. And bam, he's gone and at such a young age.
Love him or hate him, you can't say that he wasn't a dedicated man. He was a tireless champion of the "working man". There are not a lot of Jack Laytons in politics now or ever frankly. While he may have been too far left for me, I acknowlege that he was a counter balance to the right and I will be the first to say that he was a great Canadian.
